Venting through the sewers

Wow...some people have no idea what they're talking about. There's no trap after the house, and if you tie it in with a wye between the point at which it exits the basement and any vents, it won't blow out the vent stacks...it also won't bubble out your toilets or sinks. If the city smells mj in the sewer, then you live in a city where everyone's shit must smell like weed. Another thing....duct fans aren't worth a shit at static pressure...get a centrifugal inline exhaust fan
you are talking crap pal some houses do have a trap after the 4" plastic (modern type) (not the 6" cast iron (older type)) pipe leaves the house, i have installed them, there is a manhole inspection and drain clearing channel after the trap and then the pipe changes to a 6 inch, go to a drain centre and ask for a 110mm drainage trap, i bet they pop one on the counter, these traps are used when there is a sewage pumping station to pump sewage up a hill from your housing area, if you live at the bottom of a hill on the outskirts of town then the sewage gets pumped to the top of the hill before gravity takes over and it heads for the sewage works and these pumps cannot pump the gasses from the sewer, and any vent pipe in the house is to control the pressure in the house drainage pipes, if you empty your bath into a closed pipe without a vent the water would not run away without an air intake, it would just gurgle, to vent smells into a sewer is possibler but not recommended. people do it i know they do. but its not the long term answer when you can buy 10 kilos of carbon refill for 60 gbp every 6 months, and if i opened an inspection manhole and the sewer was reeking of grass, and i was an honest workman, then you know what would happen next. if it was me i would say nothing but thats me.

i think its an interesting idea. an ozone gen would probly be easier but idk about home lines but i do know in prison we could pump the water out of the toilet and it drew air in on its own and we would use that to smoke weed and it had a good draw on it so it might not take much

Enough with the alternative suggestions. I am well aware of them, ozone is harmful indoors and I have a bigass carbon filter that is not quite enough. At least read the OPs posts before adding crap to the thread please it's only 3 pages. This is not about filters...

there are Several issues with this
one there is a water trap involved.
Removal of this traap can cause some bad stuff to enter your room. Starting with explosive gas. and some foul smells. and Rats and other Vermin.

Your 100000% wrong. Im a liscensed plumber and I know for a fact (on the p2 test) that housetraps are NOT used anymore. If you have cast iron drains in your house, you most likely have a housetrap in the basement, not in the yard. The reason its illegal is because it would be double trapping all of your fixtures, causing manholes to BLOW UP like they used to from expanding methane gas. Thats why you have a vent stack, not because your venting your fixtures, your venting the sewer in front of your house. Thats why theres a trap in your toilet, under your sink, under your tub, under your shower, instead of just one between your house and the road. SUCK IT

I'm sure this has been tried, it's just too good of an idea.

Basement growers, why not hook a fan up to a stack cleanout or a floor drain to vent all that smelly air into the sewers?

You would need a way to prevent backflow of course, something like a p trap, but other than that it seems like a good idea. It would be hard to overpower the scent of sewage.

Thoughts? Drawbacks?
Drains and vent stacks have traps, like the elbow under a sink that contains water at all times to keep sewer/septic tank gasses from entering a home. Will you force your exhausted air through the trap water like smoke through a bong so it can then make it into the sewer or septic system?

If you want to tap into a stack pipe that’s cool and the gang. Just expect to be exhausting your warm air/odors out through the top of the stack pipe in your roof and not down into the sewer or septic system.

Have you installed them in the US??? What do the brits know about plumbing anyway (or Dental care for that matter)? Last piping I saw you guys do is STILL dumping tens of thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico and you cocksuckers won't let any intelligent people in there to fix it.

I'm not going to ask my Supply house for a 110mm drainage trap...I don't like being laughed at.

YOU are the one talking out your ass here...but I've been backed up by another post.

Peace

It can be done, I know of a grower that was doing this. He suggested it to me. And for months I pondered how I could build a room and have a vent go to a "stink pipe" that is nowhere near the intended room. I didn't want an obvious pipe coming through a wall so I threw the plans out and found a new idea; stealth cab!

Still in construction phase (being lazy)
Then I will have a scrubber on the back which will be against the wall.

the only catch with this is that you only can vent 4 inch, and depending on your lead, alot of 4 inch, it would never keep my light s cool, but for a smaller op it would be fine

i agree that you wouldn't blow by traps

That's the idea, and if it went through water in a trap it would also be cleaned some like in a bong. Soooo, probably need a kickass fan

of course you can put a trap in, oh lets have the smell go up all the stacks from a very large pumping station, the pumping station has its own vents you fuckin americanised robot, dont tell me about a fuckin multi national bunch of goons that dump oil in your gulf, its you bastards the need the fuckin oil, look what you fuckers have done to yourselves with yer big 7 and 8 litre engines, what you know about the sewers you could write on the back af a postage stamp, oh and plumber, stick to houses and stay away from sewers if you think its ok to vent from your house to a sewer you are an absolute nutter, try it, lets see what happens to you, i have allredy explained there is not much smell in the sewer, the gases are almost odourless, if i remove a toilet pan from the flat or house next door and i can smell rotting vegetation i will call the police, and that is a promise. american bastards.

Your full of crap. Ive done english bathrooms before. You idiots stick a toilet, sink, and shower in a 60in by 30in closet.

The vent stack vents the house just as much as it does the toilet. And EVERY toilet ive pulled has smelled.

Why all the anger man? Also, just because our IDIOT politicians are pretty well bought and paid for by (insert company name and/or globalist whoever, etc...), doesn't mean all of us are in agreement with what they are forcing on us. (remember, those who don't agree with the gov. are still kinda labeled "conspiracy" nuts, etc...lol)
At any rate, i can say without a doubt, that if your room has enough negative pressure, you WILL pull sewer gases into your shit, and DAM the gasses stink. And as someone said already, if you were to vent into the sewer, and a worker smelled that shit, I'm more than certain that they'd say something to their boss and/or the police. As far as a trap inline goes, I've never seen or heard of in in any residential construction in my area, but i guess it could vary by jurisdiction.
Christ, how'd such a simple idea/thread turn into a flame war?

the problem is how to tie in past the vent stacks and not have the air back up and blowout them anyway. even if you were to say remove a toilet and tie into the pipe you still have the vent stack to deal with. and as you know you better never have the fan stop or it will stink something awful.

I am a legal patient, so security isn't as huge of an issue as it is for others.

I just want to get rid of the smell without another $100+ carbon filter that needs replacing every year and another $30 duct fan. I already have one filter but it's not enough. I want the negative pressure for the whole basement as well, which would help with the slightly stagnant air. With 500cfm pushing down the pipe, it'll go all the way through I'm sure.

The only problem would be fan failure, in which case methane could come up...and I have a hot-water heater there eep

Edit: found a link in the growfaq http://www.growfaq.net/growfaq/1457.htm

WOW, am I the only one that followed the link from "deflator", it has pics and all. There IS NO trap beyond the point where they are tying into the line, this is a cleanout for snaking from the house the main line.

JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE, how does a simple question turn into a Political AND RACIAL battle of words?

SMOKE A F'ING FATTY and relax

OH, and I think it's a VERY intriguing.
