Vertical LED panels - flooded tubes - 2' x 3' closet - give me your opinion

Hello RIU,

I am setting things up in my grow space and I wanted some input. You guys have a lot of ideas I'd never have, and you see things I don't. So, on with business. I have a 2' x 3' closet. It is about 9 feet tall. Becasue it is so small, but tall, I grow vertically. In the past I have run hid lights vertically both in cooltubes, and bare bulb. This past week I picked up 2 brand new 154w LED panels. I have never used LED's nor read much about them as I never grew with them. So I'm an LED noob.

I'm going to be running the flooded tubes/ nft setup I have run before. I use 4" waste pipe in 2 levels. Just a rez at the bottom, a water pump to get the water to the top, the rest of it is handled by gravity.

What I am not sure about is specific placement of the pipes and light. Plus ventilation help. I have always ran a 6" fan 24/7 sucking air from the room. With these LED's it won't be warm enough to do that. Meaning it would constantly be 60f in the closet, and that's too cold for my taste. I ran the lights all night and the temps were stablized around 85f. This would be an alright temperature, however with the waterfall on all the time, in such a small space I'm thinking humidity will get out of control.

I've had Powdery Mildew a couple times and would prefer to never deal with that again.

Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Be warned though, I have pretty strong opinions and like to make up my own mind.... so if I don't exactly do what you tell me to do... don't get offended. It's not personal. I'm just stubborn and slow to learn sometimes

I will give it my best effort to be open minded and accepting of your suggestions. :)

Here is the closet... just a simple closet.

I have 2 vents to the outside world through the roof. I think they are 6" and 3".

I have 2 passive intakes (ie holes in the door)

There are two openings at the top of the door. I've had many different setups during the life if this closet.

There is an outlet in the closet. This is definitely the pic that explains it all... lol. If you've seen my cousin vinny, it's like the dog shit picture. Oh, look... a picture of dog shit... that's the case cracker. lol

Thanks in advance. And yeah, I really like aluminum tape.

EDIT: The lights are grow evolution Bud Boss 150's. http://www.growevolution.com/lights/bud-boss-150-rectangle/

Im all business while im here holding this baby! :-)

mount both panels vertically on the door or suspend them vertically

Put a timer on the fan and exhaust for 10min every 1.5hr

Isulate with reflectix on the walls to help stabalize temps

if 300w of led isnt hacking it add the 400w hps

maybe use a scrog screen to train closer to the panels

Some added info. Forgot to mention I'll be using a screen on the walls to hold the plants back from the light.

And definitely these lights are gonna be enough. I think they are actually going to be too much.

Just opening the closet door to take the pictures... it's been about 2 minutes and the screen of the computer still looks a weird color. I'm thinking I'll run a switch to the outside, so I can switch them off before opening the door if I need to. It's just too bright for words.

I like that. :-)

just put the exhaust on a temp controller. That will keep an ideal temp and will prevent humidity and mold. Certain controlers you can hook a heater and cooling fan up to. Everything else seems a non-issue. Can you touch the lenses without burning your hand? Just wondering about heat output on the fixture

Looks like a good one. I dont run hydro so i cant help ya with the question other than say get a mini room dehumidifier. I got one for about 35 on ebay or amazon and it kept my 4x4x6.5 tent in check running 24/7 while flowering.

There's little heat from the lights, the 'glass' feels warm to the touch. They have warm air flowing from the back part/ heatsinks. When I mentioned they brought the closet up to 85, that was with light running... and there was a fan clogging up the main vent. Now things are all open and I'm running both... we'll see what temps get to with both up and running.

Maybe I'll do a screen like yours with a bottom, also a top? that would be fun. COG - Cage of Green.

LED do give off some heat. More than most people would believe. If you have a speed controller run the fan at the slowest speed for starters. Unless you let your house get to 60 theres no way your closet would be able to either as its intake is from your home. If you do have the thermostat at 60, then you should be severely beaten about the face and neck. You could get by with a smaller bathroom exhaust fan from home depot for about $13, they're like 50-75cfm and probably an adequate method as well.

The thermostat is set at 64. Its also 4' up. The air in my drafty house at floor level is much cooler than at eye level. Closet stays right around 59-60 during the day and around 54 at night. I'm cold all the time.

bathroom fan may be in order.

I've been running the lights all day and the closet is stable at 86. Nice.

WooHoo! Jiggy Fresh Buddy! Thanks so much for posting the link. I didnt realize the information on the New Panels were On their Website.

Holy Cow! Did you see the BlowOut price on the Spectrum 10's I am using? I almost picked up a couple more, but they talked me into the New Tech, worked out a Good Deal on 3 of them! WooHoo! I am not sure if the prices listed on the New Panels are Sale prices or not, but looks like LED Technology is becoming affordable? Just a few years ago, I was buying 1w diode tech for about $4/watt, and now its down to about $2/watt with WAY BETTER Penetration!!!

AnyWho, I Love your Grow System! I almost did something similar in my 4' X 6" room, who knows, maybe I will after seeing how yours does. Did you say you ran this system before? Did you Journal it? Link Me PLEASE? Too Lazy at the moment to search.. <<<<< BAKED!

With this post, I should be subb'd for the Ride! WooHoo! Wheres the Weed AT?

I did a 1 level version with 5 plants. Got 10 oz.
https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/306850-jigfreshs-grow-3-flooded-tube.html

I did a 2 level with Sour Kush. Got 20 oz.
https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/393811-jigfreshs-closet-flooded-tube-vert.html

Than I stopped making new threads... did 4 more grows in that setup. Don't really remember yields. They were between 8oz and 16oz I believe.

My latest journal starts with a grow in the tubes... then moves to soil.
