Virginia Growers Thread

I’ve been looking for VA-specific info and noticed that they were scattered all over the site. Thought it might be easier to have one thread that gathers everything for VA. The purpose of this thread is to unite Virginia growers so we can all share our experiences, tips, tricks, recipes, etc., and keep the Virginia marijuana community growing.


I’ll start it off.
Total newbie to growing (and even to gardening).
First grow. Growing two plants outdoors. Don't have an indoor setup.
Even though I've done something wrong at nearly every stage, my plants appear to be doing fairly well.
They're not ready to harvest yet, but guessing in the next 2-4 weeks?
But, the weather is quickly cooling off with lots of rain.
It's in the 50's today.
How much do I need to worry about possible negative effects caused by the weather?
I keep hearing about bud rot, etc.
What can I (should I) do to take these two plants across the finish line?

I'm up in the mountains not too far from Charlottesville area. I strictly do indoor grows as the bugs and weather outdoors are just too much stress for me. Been growing for awhile and just recently started making my own seed crosses. Let me know if I can help in any way.

I'm in Spotsylvania, not a highly experienced grow. I'm making a point of learning how to do hard/unconventional things.
Grow and bloom outdoors all seasons
Gonna do a mass grafting project in the next few years.
A lover of variety I never grow out a full seed pack so I'm happy to trade my left overs.

To test the limits and capabilities of my hotbox I will be attempting to keep 2 autoflowers going from now though april. The thought process is "If I can get autos to grow and develop this winter, then, having established photo plant simply survive next winter will be easy" Seed stock is fog...

Glad you started this thread! Im in Va Beach, ive only been growing a couple years now since legal but im old and retired and its now my full time hobby. ive had good success indoors and zero success outdoors, (0-7) last year, lol. Anyway think ive made it through this year, hoping for 3 more weeks Of decent weather.

Try something that puts on less massive colas. You got great growth your plants get huge but big dense buds are more likely to attract mold and rot. A good OG strain will put on lots of buds but more golf ball sized, not massive donkey dicks.

Thank you sir, you are right about the landrace strains and im on to something with the gt-thai outside. Lots and lots of popcorn and golf ball size buds, getting fatter by the day! Hopefully I did my last bt treatment last night! So much better than last season already for me, seems like all or most of my friends and neighbors have already lost all their outdoor grows to budrot so far this year. One of the clones i gave away to my bil has had total neglect and although not real huge, it has also survived with little to no maintenance On his porch almost directly facing and on the chesapeake bay.

Southwest Virginia here 15 miles from Tennessee. Lost 96% of my outdoor this year to the rot. That fkn cold wet stretch back in June started it all. Fought it all summer and lost. Probably lost somewhere between 6-8 pounds. And I’m growing in a covered area kind of a partial greenhouse type setup. Can’t imagine what straight full on outdoor would be like. Next year i wanna try to grow only proven mold resistant strains if there is such a thing.

Redbeard seems to make a point of breading for newbs I have not had a single one go hermi despite a few being grown in down right abusive conditions. His 5ogs was the best smoke I've grown so far. Based in Oregon they got a pretty similar climate as we do in Va. Cheapest direct from breaded seeds I've found ($35-50 per 5 pack) downside only accepts payment though paypal.

I like old school sativas so i enjoy Ace Seeds , they do a lot of landrace stuff, but they do not ship to USA so i go through Coffee Shop or. NOrth Atlantic Seed Co. to get them. I was thinking Vietnamese, Thailand, Cambodia type landraces would be good here with our insane humidity.

Couple photos from my outside grow today, i had a limb die a week ago so hung and dried it out , did a 20 minute trim job and then got a nice buzz of a couple bowl hits so that made me smile. I have gone from 4 gallons of water a day a month ago to 2 gallons a day currently.

Well, it looks like my greatest fear has come on to my outdoor grow - Bud Rot! At least that's what I think it is. Just noticed it today and have cut out all possible areas of rot. Any suggestions on what else I can do? I had a feeling that the rainy weather / cold front might bring it on. Pretty sure none of this was happening yesterday, so I think I got it fairly early? Still an issue w. Thrips. Been using SNS-203 to hopefully, get rid of the bug problem.

Nice! I love Pungo Pizza too! No Strawberry festival in a few years now because of stupid vb politics, i.e.- parking and money. my screen name was what we called the original 70’s homegrown weed from Pungo.

Those sativa strains wouldn't finish until mid November for most of VA. I'd suggest an indica dominant strain that is done by first week of October to avoid the crazy humidity of our fall weather. Strains from the Pacific Northwest are good for humid, cool temps as well.

Next time you spot it, cut it out and spray the area with a strong mix of hydrogen peroxide and water to kill the spores which are airborne. Air movement with fans, if possible, would he a big help. Hope you get to chop with no more of it.

Have not tried fans and my plants are over 10’ tall on my deck. 12’ including the pots, so they are way over my roof line and just no real practical way to put a canopy or tarps over them, believe me , ive been thinking of ways to do that! Thank you
