Voidlings First Cab

I think voidling may have some issus with height as his flowering and vegging space are 30". Nothing a little remodeling won't fix lol. I underestimated things too when I first started ;)

I was replicating a cab by Anti on another forum with the idea of more smaller plants harvested every week or two rather than fewer big plants. Makes it easier to mix up what strains you're running at one time. Was partly limited due to the length of the pl-l bulbs I have hanging vertically.

Was definitely thinking remote ballast outside of cab.

Do you think the two 23 and two 26 are enough? I think I shouldadd at least two more blue cfl.
Not sure how much ambient light will hit the clones on a shelf aboveboard the lights. Guess a smaller shelf than I was planning should be adequate. Need 4-8 rooted clones each week

I forgot to answer, I have one of those Springfield combination temp and humidity .
started yesterday on light baffle prototype number 2, should finish today.

Only 1 of the second 5 popped so far. Afraid I messed up the root by letting it grow out too long. Hope they recover

Hey Voidling how's it going bro. So do you have 6 roms up now. I have so many of those seeds it's not even funny, we'll get you set up with a dandy Romulan pheno one way or the other.

6 so far, hoping the other four recover, still have 8 seeds in the bag. This is the reasoning I had behind not doing them all at once.

I'll try posting pics of my light trap later along with the sprouts.

I'm so impatient, I keep looking in on them wanting to see more popped and more growth. A watched pot never boils though

Thanks JC

Haha I know the feeling. That's cool though that you have 8 more Rom seeds though. I have never used coco so I'm pretty useless in that dept but what is your germing process and how do you start the germed seeds?

Oops David Lee Roth just came on ,.....time to crank some tunes!

I found another one just below surface level. Might of planted a little deep, also found some tap roots, so might of ended up dropping them in with the root facing the wrong direction and just taking time to make it right.

Every single seed had the tap root showing so not a seed problem.

My usual process:
Drop seeds in dechlorinated water when I go to bed. In morning I transfer them over to wet paper towels in a bowl. Room temp is usually 75-80 in the winter. Once the tap root is showing I put them a quarter inch give or take into coco in one of the small plastic disposable cups. Keep the coco fairly damp and watch for the sprout. My only thing is I don't know how long to wait before feeding them since I have no nutrients in the coco.

The issue I had this time was that I'd dropped the seeds in the morning when I moved the first 5 from water to towels. That night I put the ones in towels into coco, and the second batch into the paper towels. Fresh water and fresh paper towels for those two steps, to reduce any kind of possible contamination. The next morning was in a rush for a dr appointment an hour away so didn't get to put them in coco. When I made it back 4 hours later or so the tap roots were much longer than I ever let them go. Afraid that I might of destroyed the little sub roots trying to move them. I also had little control of which way they went into their holes for fear of damaging tap root further. Was fully my mistake/problem as they all had long tap roots showing.

I'll probably drop the last 8 in a day or two if these don't come up.

Do you spray fertilize seedlings? I was reading up on a thread about foliar feeding in advanced techniques

The roots of that runt plant I had before from bagseed. Never showed sex or side branching, tiny plant and tiny roots

This is some z channel that I'm using to try making a light baffle as my last one was too heavy, to bulky, and doesn't work well at all

Odd that photos in posts 1 -10 are links with not photo until you click and it pops up. All photos after that show up as thumbnails properly

Well I did something stupid. I measured the size of the whole for the intake. I then went and made the thing. I didn't think about the fact that I measured the outer diameter and made those measurements the inner diameter when I got to the shop and made it :( Don't even have the excuse of being on anything. Hopefully black paint will absorb up the light getting through currently and cut the opening bigger yet. Will have more pics of it tomorrow

Update
1211.jpg1212-1.jpg1212-2.jpg

The tallest on the last pic is the tiny one from the full size party cups. I downpotted. The next three biggest were more bagseed I had dropped before getting the other seeds just because. The other three plants were in the dark for two days. Ate up the lower leaves but showed impressive growth on two.

They look good man, just the one in the back right looks like it has algae or something on the top layer? Could be the camera and lighting though, not sure. The seedlings are showing great signs of growth too.

In the last pic? Yeah that's algae. I didn't realize that cup didn't have drain holes and put too much water in. It's only bagseed, how does algae spread? I swore I rinsed that coco out real well and I haven't fed any nutes for it to feed on.

Think that's close enough for a cfl? As far as I can tell there's no damage to leaves except for a bagseed one that was resting on it for too long

Thanks

You need to cover the cups up so light doesnt penetrate through to the roots. You will eventually have problems and Algae is something you dont want!!!!

Well still kicking myself for my stupid mistake. Can't wait to get the light contained completely. Once the intake is done I've got to figure out a carbon filter on my 120mm fan that will also be lightproof. I've got an idea of few things to try once I find a better way to mount the fan. The bolts in the included hardware are too short. Crud forgot my plans for this carbon filter.

Ah now I remember. Was thinking of making a wood frame just slightly bigger than the fan size with a wire screen up against the fan. Put in activated carbon and a second frame with wire screen bolts on to spread out the activated carbon.

The other thought is a box on the outside of the fan. In the bottom a hole cut that I can sit one of those ziplock plastic containers down in it. Put lots of holes down in the bottom of the container. Put activated carbon in panty hose and spread it over the bottom of the container. This method would be more bulky and heavy and cause the cab to be further from the wall which makes it look odd.

Once that is done, I'm hoping to have all light blocked from glowing out the backside. It's bright enough to disturb my sleeping and I already have an insomnia problem.

Thanks for stopping by. Do you have a thread or just add on to HC's?

Thanks bekind. Once I see roots in the small cup I repot to the party cups.

In the future for the party cups I might make some foam disks like the neopreme ones for hydro systems. Cover and insulate the top of the soil from the light.

@BBYY Thanks, Hope I can make it worth while

Got the second light trap spray painted. Unfortunately it still lets a glow out :( I'll see how bad it is come night and it gets dark in the room. I used z channel with an 1/8 inch gap and spray painted it matte black. I'll try stretching out pantyhose over it to see if that kills the last of the light off.

Still need to get the fan light proofed and then hopefully I should be good to go on that front.

Just up potted two bag seed plants and 6 of the 9 roms. Some still had tiny root balls and some were growing out the bottom of the mini cups. I hate repotting, maybe I should start in the party cups from now on. If I do that though I need to make the shelf even lower than planned. Any thoughts on which cup to root cuttings in?

I got a sample of General Hydroponics RapidStart which is 1-0.5-1. Maybe I should of been using it since the begining? I'm going to start using it now. Maybe a quarter strength nutes plus that. Again, any thoughts? They're only a couple of days old but in coco with no nutes in the mix.

Pics later

@Dizzle I'll try checking out your thread soon. So many to go through and so little time.

6 Roms up potted
1213-1.jpg

3 roms and 2 bagseeds. The back left was the runt in the party cups. Back right is the one with algae and stem fell over while it was over watered.
1213-2.jpg

Two bagseed that leaves were badly drooping so up potted them and went ahead with 6 of the roms

Nice lil green kids you got there :) I had some Roms goin, but unfortunately i killed em all with a seroius fight with pH....pH won lol But the one that made it the farthest was a nice looking plant depsite its abuse...looked liek a xmas tree.

Good luck with this grow man :)
