Vortex aeration

Just thought i would leave this here and hopefully some of you guys can make use of it.

With living somewhere with thin walls i needed an alternative to an air pump and never found one that was powerful and quiet so found an alternative that works better. A water trickle and the small hum from a water pump is far quieter than the air pumps I had tried.
The idea of this is that it mimics nature in the form of aeration and ensures nutrients are very well mixed. Works great running with a biofilter and ph does stay stable.

I had initially putting 2 of these in and the pH kept going up towards 7 due to the amount of aeration so removed one.

This is simply put together by drilling a hole in the bottom of a bucket about 20mm in diameter and attaching a hose at an angle in the bucketas in the photo, I just drilled a hole and used a ziptie which has worked fine for 6 months so far. I did put an overflow in at the top which just goes back into the tank but this was not needed as when you get the hose position right the water level stays consistent. I used a 600l/ph pump but think it is more down to the size of the hole in the bottom of the bucket and the angle of the pipe than the pump size so this can be done with a small pump or a huge one so very scalable.
