v1 wk2.jpg pheno #1 short/ minimal stretch
v2 wk2.jpgpheno #2 longest stretch/ sativa dom
v3 wk2.jpgpheno #3 med height/ med stretch
v4 wk2.jpgpheno #4 tall / long stretch similar to, but not as long as #2
v5 wk2.jpgpheno #5 shortest to start/ med stretch

5 pk tga Vortex all Female, at least two diff main phenos w/ differences exhibited by each. All smell like sour bubblegum at this point. Seed pop to flower no less than 3 months. Clones so well i was able to flower clones from each pheno, keep mothers, and have one of each to give away for a friend to choose his own pheno based on his environment, and to guarantee preservation. Odd numbers slow to veg but very bushy structure, #'s 3 and 5 are particularly vigorous. more to come...

Week 3 update smells and resins developing and distinguishing the phenotypic range. Although the they all are different; the aromas a near identical with heightened expressions of specific variances, especially a bubble-gummy vortex smell, and a lemon cleaner smell nearer to space queen. The two stretchiest females (#2 & #4) Have very different smells now, and very different leaf shapes now becoming clearer. #2 has a much brighter, lemony scent but a small stout afghan dom leaf shape, while #4 has slightly faster developing buds but a much more muted smell, more earthy. These two look to be the "dynamo" phenotype.
The others (#1, #3, & #5) seem to be the shorter, tighter node "cosmos" phenotype. #1 has shown a slight nitrogen deficiency (which has been addressed), but is still developing a beautiful bouquet. Very stinky bubblegum smell. More hybrid, or slightly afghan leaf structure. #3 IMO is gonna be awesome, the best phenotype so far. It has an equally strong smell, as any of the others, but a better mix of the two dominant smell, lemon cleaner and bubblegum. Tighter node structure, that look like they will link together to develop big colas. Sativa dominant leaf structure, and very vigorous grower. #5 Is smelling more like the #4 sativa dom stretcher. Very mellow odor, but nice bud structure and health.
...more to come.

Also watching this. While my vortex is a much smaller grow than yours, we're at about the same point in flowering (I think you're ahead by a week or week and some change). Looking forward to seeing how they yield when they're allowed to really grow.

well week 4 and plants are fading fast.
#1, #2, & #3 all have the same smell now. pungent! the resin production is through the roof. there are trichomes covering everything, easily visible to the naked eye. incredible trichomes all over the stems and leaves around the bud sites. the smell is a creamy, sweet and sour bubblegum with lemon undertones and a banana ester smell similar to yeast smells in fine beers, such as, Aventius or Franziskaner. I smoked some Flav with a friend and it had a similar smell/ taste as what i'm getting with the vortex.
#4, & #5 have almost no smell to speak of, probably due to the close proximity to the other very stinky phenos overwhelming their subtleties. however, the bud development is much better. i'm sure these two will yield more than the others, and resin production is outstanding. if this were anything else all 5 would be keepers, but barring a potency jump in either #4, or #5 they will be run till death and thats that.
Not expecting much of a yield, even with the size, and veg time, but the smell and taste are well worth it, and if the potency is on point, its a no brainer.

i'd be interested on which phenotypes have undergone analysis and testing...

Is that towards the end of Week 4? I thought they'd be a little thicker by then. Guess it's all in weeks 7-9. I'm on week 3 day 4 and seeing the same quickly fading leaves. I thought I was fucking up real bad but I see yours are fading/dying off too so I guess it's not me/my inexperience. #5 looks great in terms of budsites/bushiness. I noticed my plant, while it does smell, also doesn't have a really crazy strong smell. Kinda dimmed my outlook on it a bit but I figure I'll wait until I smoke it to and get rid of any preconceived notions. Haven't smoked in over 3-4 months after 2-3 years of smoking daily (decided to stop to fund the grow and not deal with dealers) so I'm sure it'll be good regardless.

holy shit man.. theyr huge! u sure did chop off alot ehh? hell of a lollipop job! lol. and i kno the guy above me was sayin he thought they'd be fatter... i think they probly took quite a shock losing the bottom 1/2 of their leaves.. probly set them back a lil bit. they look frosty as hell tho. u can see all the frost man. very nicely done. think i personally woulda left a lil more on... maybe just strip the bottom few buds off each branch. oo well.. regardless.. they look great man. keep doin wat ur doin. =) im subbing

second (keeper) smells alot like the ripper, high is incredible, just like the description, a little bigger buds.
third, huge buds, huge yeilder, not much smell.
still have 5 seeds in the safe.

chb444220, the prune was gradual and totally necessary. I know the pics aren't great but what you don't see is how they are set under the light. This is essentially a scrog set up but, being that I don't know the phenos finish time yet, I needed the ability to remove each individual plant. So instead of the normal pot size for this set up I went with 10 and 15 gallon pots. The fade for me is 100% pot size. They have clearly filled up the whole pot with their roots.
Bud size looks normal, imho, for a sativa leaning medium yielder. This strain clones so easily that I was able to clone each 4 x and have all clones big enough to flower when I switched the photoperiod, and keep mothers of each. So in another spot in the room I have clones of each pheno going. No fade yet at all. I'll include pics of them as we go on. Thanks for checking in.
quisqueyano, check the trichs! This is a fast finishing strain. almost all accounts are saying 8 week chop to retain full flavor. I have space queen going to and she is looking very similar in development. I think weeks 4-6 will add more weight, but I not expecting much.

ok , after a little delay, the vortex at 5.5 weeks. I included some pictures of the clones being flowered along side the monsters from seed.

pheno # 5 DSC03959.jpgDSC03960.jpg v #5 cloneDSC03966.jpg

After 5 weeks the #4 pheno has shown itself to be a hermie. Not a big deal, pretty normal for a sativa of any %. All the other girls look to be stable and there won't be enough time for any pollen dropped to make viable, or even well developed seeds. So no harm done. #1 and #3 seem to be the closest in expression with a wonderful lemon bubblegum bouquet, and spear-shaped colas filling out nicely. # 2 has developed a more complex bouquet that is at first dominated by a sour smell but with a lingering hint of melon. It is really quite nice. The buds are spear-shaped, popcorn nugs, and are developing fast! Hints of magenta line the already well developed calyxs. White hairs are finishing to a beautiful neon orange. I don't think this girl will need a day past 56. I will start flushing her soon. Last, but certainly not least, #5. I call her big bud(its all relative). Her colas are the biggest in the bunch, covered in resin and have developed a bit more of a bouquet. When disturbed, I smell a musky, earthen skunk, and a tiny bit of the bubblegum lemon. Slower in veg and more subtle in her odors, I had almost written her off, but this but development is something special amongst this lot. I spoke with some tga team members at an event recently, and when seeing their chosen Vortex phenotype I knew #5 was it. I suspect they keep at least one other for personal use, due the outrageous smell difference, but the yielder must be more what they were looking for as prototypical progeny. #5 looks like it will need the longest to finish also, which means I can't wait to see how these buds fill out! I am also hoping a proper flush and cure will bring that skunk, fruit flavor out a bit more.

wk 6.5 update. all phenos are beginning to finish. Calyxs are swallowing up the hairs, trichomes are clouding up, and fan leaves are dropping. Phenos #1 and #3 are basically identical at this point, even harder to tell apart in the clone form. They will take a bit longer to finish. Pheno #2 has become something very special. The buds are absolutely beautiful and this one is an early girl. She is also taking in the banana runt smell. I can't wait to taste the smoke on this one. Pheno #5 is on track with #1, and #3 for finish time. I presume at 8 weeks, or a few days after. #5 has begun to put on some weight and is getting funkier. I have stopped photographing #4 due to it being a hermie. It is a bit harder to get at where I moved it to, but I'd be happy to field any questions regarding it. Enjoy!

pheno #1 DSC04130.jpg DSC04131.jpg yield 188/0.4 lbs. lemon, pepper, very Jack-like, but uniquely its own. heavy taste.

Pheno #2 DSC04132.jpg DSC04133.jpg yield 142/0.3 lbs cherry slurpee, w/ a smooth carmel corn undertone, mouth coating. testing hurt the end yield.
probably closer to 160-170. 20 something unaccounted for.

Pheno #3 DSC04134.jpg DSC04135.jpg yield 198/0.4 lbs. lemon, cherry slurpee, no pepper. fainter in taste.

Pheno #4 DSC04136.jpg DSC04138.jpg yield 159/0.35 lbs Creamy sour cherry, more musky than sugary, amazing amt. of resin. Delicious. found one s1.

Pheno #5 DSC04139.jpg DSC04140.jpg yield 191/0.4 lbs. not a distinct smell/ or taste. Cure brought out a faint smell reminiscent of her kin.

Overall, for me, Vortex was a winner. Yielded right were I like to be, and in only 8-9 weeks, so thats a bonus. Great smell and taste overall. High is wonderful, just as described. Fast, confusing, no ceiling, get up and go and then forget where you were going type medicine. Actually did cause one guy to sweat immediately. Pretty funny, as he had never heard of it, or knew of Sub's description. Out of a five pack I got all five females, but had to carefully pick through these as more hermies popped up than I thought. My #4, and #5 hermied heavily, but I never caught #5 so it seeded my #2 clone. Little underdeveloped poprocks.
