Was i wrong or was there a problem?

This growing season i had a plant that was about 6ft tall. Just a mid plant but it was the first one i've ever got to grow over 4 inches.
Well i made it all the way till it started flowering and began having a problem.
The bottom leaves were turning yellow and falling off.
I figured it was just because it was budding but, eventually half of the plant was gone.
So i chopped it extremely earlier because i thought it was going to die and not produce any bud.
Does this sound like a problem?Or does it sound normal?

sounds like you need more nitrogen ....out doors id recomed blood meal ...or maybe somthing a little more complete like rainbow mix or happy frog 5-5-5 fertlizer
