Weak yields...

my plants look beautiful, no wilting, they're all a beautiful green color and look healthy. they're on their last week of budding and they don't look like they'll yield very much.

right now they're growing in a light nutrient soil (very light, worm castings mixed with a bit of miracle grow), their growing under a 400wMH bulb. the tops of the plants are about 8-10 inches from the bulb and i'm running a DIY cool tube that keeps the grow room at about 79 degrees when the lights are on and 72-73 degrees with the lights off.
the seeds were given to me by a friend; he said they were orange kush seeds, but he could of just made that up to sound cool... idk...

what can i do to help increase the yield of my plants?
does hydroponics yield more?
should i use more nutrients? less nutrients?
is it the seeds I'm using and not anything I'm doing wrong?

Use flower ferts at recomended amount and add molasses

next time if you have the $$ go with a HPS, can keep the MH as well for best of both worlds.

You MUST have a hps if you want a good yield. Start with that....

also how long have you been flowering?

make sure you start counting from when they show sex, and not from when u flipped to 12/12

yeah. i'm talkin about after the plant is harvested all together. i had a pretty large plant, about a foot and a half tall and low stress treated so that it had about 9 separate colas, it only yielded an ounce. thats why i'm trying to find out how i can increase yield.
i guess i'll try the flowering nutrients. anyone know of a good brand that i can get that has easy instructions to follow? can i find said nutrients at a local store or am i going to have to get it off the internet?

the light is a 400w MH. there is a plastic bag covering the front because the light was too bright and the photos came out terrible so i put it there to take the pictures. on it now is a homemade cool tube with a glass panel, some ducting, and a duct fan 180cfm.

there are 4 different plants. the two on the right are sour diesel (i think) and the ones on the left i'm not so sure about. the sativa in the front left is almost done budding. (these pictures are 10 weeks old)

Those are the healthest plants ive seen on this site, I agree about the HPS, i still have mine veging under my MH, untill i can get an HPS, and there already 2'-6" tall, anyways good luck.

first of all sativas can take up to 12 weeks or longer to flower, and you have no idea what you got, although they look like a hybrid.

second, you need flowering nutes if you do not have some already, and feed them properly and post some pics when the hairs start turning brown..

also think about this.. usually they stretch until week 4 or 5 of flowering, so when did they stop vertical growth or have they?

figure that once they stopped stretching you have at least 4, and up to 6 more weeks of flowering before they are done

This guy knows what hes talkin about. Those plants are nowhere near finish. You'll know when some hairs turn brown and the trichomes turn cloudy and amber

dont chop that crop ! the sativa takes hella long like flo jo said. and yeah those plants dont look done. but i guess u can give the chop if u want but it will have less potency

You need a pocket microscope! Those babys look beautiful but they look like they have weeks before they finish! Hydro yields more then soil but the strain makes a difference too. Kush strains are not big yielders! Sativas yield bigger but the buds are not as tight. Also make sure to use enough ferts without overdosing. For soil they recomend a ppm of 600-700 for veg and 800-900 for early flower and 900-1100ppm for late flower. You need the HPS for flower or a enhanced spectrum MH. A normal MH does not let plants stretch or grow like they normally do in flower! If you get the scope you can view the trichs and hack your plants at the right time. Good Luck!

Like the man says, there no way near finished, Its cause of the metal halide, Theyt should really only be used for vegging, not enough of the old red spectrum. Like everything in nature, its not on a time limit, chop them girls when you think there ready, not simply after 8 weeks

thats BS! can get some great yields with MH from start to finish...just look at the 400 watt club and those MH grows! YES HPS is more optimal growing conditions BUT certantly NOT the reason why his yield is low.

its just not done yet... plain and simple.. mh, hps, cfls whatever it is growing under it aint ready
