Hey everyone,

We officially got legalized in Michigan in January so I decided I wanted to grow weed instead of going to my regular medical marijuana dispensary. This was my first grow and I decided hydroponics was the best for my living situation. I decided to cut some holes out of a sterlite storage bin and try to grow 10 plant with Rockwool. Only 2 of the 10 survived after the first few weeks but I was still happy and continued the grow. I bought 2 cheap 60W indoor grow lights from home depot to veg them and then switched to a big horticultural grow light to flower them. I used only 1 liquid nutrient to veg and 1 to flower. it took 70+ days in my closet with the cheap setup but I have 2 healthy 4 foot plants. Nice bud, white trichomes, a dank smelling bud. I timed the stages of the grow from what the chart said on the backs of the nutrient bottles, put fresh water in the grow tank, and flushed them for 2 weeks. The grow ended about 1 week ago and I decided it was time to cut them down and hang them. The dank smell was there for a few days after I cut them but after 3 days of drying the weed now smells like grass/hay. The buds look beautiful like the ones I buy in the dispensary but I decided I was gonna try some of it out after 4 days of drying because they feel dry. I smoke it in a blunt at first and the taste is so bad that I cant even finish the blunt. I then decided to smoke it in a bong and blamed the swisher for the bad taste.

It's simply because you dried them way too fast. The environment needs to be 60% humidity at 60°F and that will allow it to dry over 5-10 days. This is so important.
Best thing you can do now is jar them IIMMEDIATELY and burp the jar once a day. You're probably not going to get what you had back, but it will at least slow the drying down.
You also might want to buy a few packs of the small 4-8gram Boost integra Humidity control packets to throw in there to add humidity as well .

Ya slower dry. I use Boveda packs, but same thing.

Dude you have to cure the bud before you smoke it. Jar it and burp 1-2x a day the smell will come back. I cant smoke them for 3-4 weeks. Imo they taste best after 2 months or so. Hopefully you flushed them good.bongsmilie

You are doing something wrong then. Buds ready to smoke if dried correctly, in 7-10 days. The curing process just helps lock in the moisture. That's it.

If you’ve never tried curing, try it

I've cured. Maybe it tastes a little better but not enough to make me bother with burping jars several times a day while looking at hygrometers and using packs of this and that. But I dry my weed slowly. It takes ten days sometimes longer. But that four day quick dry will leave you with some nasty weed that's for sure. :spew:

Correct. If you do a quick dry by mistake and you absolutely have to do as follow. Jar them burp 1-2× aday and just wait 3-4 weeks and you will get some of the smells back. But the taste is best around the 2 month mark. In my humble opinion.

I would love to see pictures of the plant before you harvested it. No one has mentioned the fact that lack of flavor and smell can also be a result of harvesting early.
If it dried in THREE DAYS and smells like HAY, it's obvious what happened.

The purpose of curing them is that not all the buds dry evenly, if you hang the whole plant you will notice that the bud doesn't dry at the same rate the bud that is closest to the top drys before the lower bud. So when you put it in a jar the moisture from the lower buds evens out with the dryness of the top buds and it makes for perfectly cured buds that smoke just right and yes it definitely does improve taste and smell. Otherwise you will have buds that are too dry and too wet and not nearly the terpenes that you're looking for.

Edit: it takes 5-10 days depending on season to dry shorter in winter longer in summer

They are NOT the same thing. I've used both and Integra packs are world's better.
My hydro shop had mold issues with the Integra packs, so they only carry Boveda packs. The are both 2 way humidity packs. I will have to try the Integra's through since you've tried both, you must know more than me. The guys at my shop aren't the brightest either, so it could of been them.
