Weird Cloning Results

High folks

This was our 1st attempt at cloning. Read read a bunch of stuff and decicded to go with the method that says to take a small leaf, carefully drip the end into the hormone powder, and keeping the stem straight, plant them into the soil medium. Then keep them under florescent light 24/7 until roots form. After 2 weeks under florescents, with no roots showing, we decided to move them into the grow box running 400w MH 24/7. After 5 weeks we have some stringy roots with absolutly no top growth. No sign of new leaves. Does anybody have a clue waht we did wrong? We sure don't. Do these little guys have any chance of making it? Is it worth keeping these going?

Thanks, DB

Thanks for writing back but after going thru the FAQs I didn't see anywhere that gave a clue where I screwed up and why there are roots but no leaves.

You should have at least one leaf node in the rooting medium for best results. Cut about 2 inches trim off leaves from bottom and cut back top leaves ( cut off outside part of leaf) .Using a sterile blade cut stem below leaf node at a 45 degree angle. Dip cut surface in rooting hormone(powder or gel) and insert in rooting medium.Place under 24 hour lights ( I use 2 4 foot tubes) under a dome.Mist.They love high humidity. Mist a couple of times a day. After 3 days open the dome a little. In a coupleofweeks you should have healthy clones.Good luck.

Thanks, I'll follow that advise on the next attempt. I'm still searching for the answer to "why I have roots with no top growth"

After searching and not being able to find any info on why this happened, we decided to trash the clone to make room for new seedings. thanks for writing

I take it that you did not put a dome on your clones when you first did it. I would say that is your problem. Try it again and put a clear dome over them and mist them three times a day like was said.

You said you just cut leaves you have to cut a growing shoot leaves will root but where will the growth come from use a branch it should work.

When do you take the dome off? I Have a set 15 of clones that 2 have roots and the rest are not showing any. They have been under the dome for 10days today. Should I leave it on till they all have roots popping out?
