Well Hello to the LED Gang..

Just a quick post, got spend time with Daughter. Anyways I can't afford to splash out at the moment, but really want to dip my toes into the LED Grow, now I would love a HANS or a A51(not gonna happen,well not for at least 5-6 months) SOOOooo gonna build one..only a small powered one to begin with and with try this out on seeds and cuttings...so it don't have to be a power house..and after all I have read of some Guys doing Autos and such with between 90w - 130w of LED.

Right two ways I'm thinking of going..

1 x 9-12 X 3W LED High Power Light Lamp Waterproof Driver Power Supply = £6.09 Free PnP

maybe running 4 x Deep Red, 3 x XDB Red, 2 x XBD Royal Blue and maybe 1 x Cree XBD White

OR 2 x the above 9-12 3w LED Drivers and Double the amount of LED's or something similar??

Still very much in the planing stage..

So any input(positive) would be great...

look like you want to build your own mini hans panel so to speak, Im sure it can grow a few seedlings and maybe even finish a auto or one 12/12 from seed, can always add a CLF or two or build more of em when money is`t as tight

Check out this thread! Very reasonably priced and all cree LEDs. Along with a lot less wiring!

You dont have to do all of that and can customize the size/amount of LEDs on there for your sized grow room.

They have alot of cheap COBs on ebay that look pretty good. You could also probably find some bridgelux/epistar ones for a good chunk cheaper than the cree ones without sacrificing too much

Cheers Slipon, yeah pretty much a Mini-Hans...was just typing pretty much just that (in Note Pad, Captcha don't like me!) Been Ogling the HANS Panel for a least 4-5 months..It's like being in a Sweet shop with No money!!

Apart from FleaBay, any recommendations on companies that sell LED, LED Drivers...and so on..


Also trying at the moment to track down the LED's used in the HANS panel, really like the HANS..so because I'm gonna build a panel, want to stick as close as I can to the LED's used in that, well as close as possible, like I said..kinda just a trial run, prototype...then when happy with that will research some more before building a bigger one, though will probably just build another couple of smaller ones first"

Its a good one and you can probably get away with using 3-4 of the COB LEDs total for what you want to do.

Another Quick Question: anyone know a "Cheap" ~ Aluminum Box Enclosure Case Project electronic DIY
been all over FleaBay and few other places, Ali-Express, adafruit..and so one..but they all want upwards of $30??

At this rate might be cheaper just to make a Box/Enclosure from a piece of sheet Ali myself?

want something about 300mm x 300mm x 5-6mm, this way can build all the parts into a case, inc fans and create some vents/slots...

Hey CC, Not sure if it was my post in your journal that brought you here or not. Either way doesn't matter glad to see you stopping by. Another option of DIY there is a guy on here I can't think of who right now, but I'll search for it in a minute, who uses VEROs and is getting some good looking results out of them and they are about half the cost of the CREEs. I was in your boat not too long ago and man some of the guys around here can really help. Trying to make wise LED purchases is soo much more involved than HID.

Also, since you're on a budget. What are you willing to spend? That will help everyone know how to help steer you in the best direction.

Hiya gk skunky, Thanks for reply mate..yeah i think it was because of your Post.

For the first run at this I will have about £30($49)just for componets ~ I have Got loads of old PC parts knocking about, heatsinks/fans/cables..etc(used to Build and service em)

yeah I know it's a piss-ant amount of $$$ but is just really a learning process, a bit of a Trial run...I mean IF all goes well I will build a couple more small ones and see how they work on Seedlings & Clones.

I started with CFL and moved on to Hps(600w) but after looking, reading and watching various Videos, decided that LED is the future(Whatever the LED haters say) I'ts gonna happen(Is happening)

My mate "Hippy Jim" was into LED's when NASA was just looking into them, but I paid no heed(I wasn't even growing then) and this was many moons ago, when the probably did suck and was expensive even for cheap crap ones.

I do intend to(Me, My Partner & Family) to be Off-Grid and self sufficient within the next 3-5yrs..well this is the Goal/Mission.

Smoke too much(if that's possible) LOL! canna for the life of me remember what got me back interested in LED's other than future plans..but I have been looking into more Grows done with LED and chatting to peeps like greatbranch and few others...


And I'm sold!

Been dribbling over the HANS Panel for quite some time, and also the A-51....maybe if peeps gave me the $$$$ they owe me I could get one of the above sooner...though I wouldn't been learning Half as much...

Cheers for the Link greenlikemoney, but for me that's outta my price range(Lump sum $100) and think I could probably build a better/cheaper solution than those..plus this way get to pick the LED's I wanna use..would like to use some CREE's in the mix.

Lovin the BATTLESTAR GANJATICA by Gaius, but even this out of my Price Range at the moment...though in the future would be interested in doing a scaled down version of this with less COBS and maybe supplement with 20x smaller LED(3w) and some CREE's..kinda a hybrid?
