Whacking the Males

I wanted to show the bucket 24 hours after cutting out the male and the roots. The plants looked great this morning and looks great now. No shock at all, and the two remaining females drank almost a full gallon today.






I also wanted you to see the lower branches of the two females. From experience, I can tell that the smaller plant on the left is good for over one ounce of dried manicured buds, and very close to two ounces.
The larger plant with all the upward growing branches and larger base will yield over 4 ounces of buds.

Wish i had this post a few weeks ago. I did exactly as you described asked and still researched a lot before i did it great to see before and after pics for those with this question.I see now i could of removed more roots thankfully it hasnt effected my grow any so far. Thanks Roseman

How old are those plants? It just amazes me how you guys can keep all the leaves, from top to bottom, so green and healthy-looking with CFL's! Great job!!!

Vegged 5 weeks, 4 days, then 12/12 two weeks today. 7 weeks 4 days old, 6 and half weeks to go.

Awesome growth! I guess I'm going to have to rethink my beliefs on the light cycle in vegetation - I didn't think 24/7 made a big difference, but once again you've proved me wrong!

I cut out three more males today and that job is over with.
I have NINE females in my closet now....all but two are very large too.

There are from three runty males, draining in the sink.

I was wondering if the male should be removed at the first sign of its sex or if I should leave it in for a couple of days till the others show their sex to eliminate or reduce the chance that another plant may shift sex to compensate for the lack of males in the grow area.
Assuming this theory is true.
I'm thinking that the male flowers may take a couple of days to form and open so I would have time on my side.
Also I liked the link to the article and the video about the sibling plants versus plants from another mother.
Very interesting stuff I've learned more about plants in a couple of months than I have in years of gardening, mostly from you.
And yes the Advanced Nutes are really good with Ph control (I saw your post on a seperate thread about this).

Ok, since this thread is taking on some sexing issues, I have a few questions. I am new but I don't think this qualifies as hijacking a thread. If it does please let me know as that is not my intention. I had a small 5 plant outdoor/ potted grow going. I had a ton of pistils and no signs of pollen sacs. I woke up one day and had 4 hermies out of nowhere (pistils were well developed but there were pollin sacs/seeds on multiple bud sites). I "whacked" them immediately and have one left. That was four days ago. Today I found signs of a couple of sacs/seeds developing on one branch. Do I need to get rid of this plant too or should I just trim the sacs carefully. I have read other posts where the guys mention "castration" and I don't want to whack this LAST plant! Please advise.

Also, what is the deal with feminized seeds? I plan on using them for my first DWC grow very soon and have ordered feminized seeds so I don't have this problem. My question is are feminized seeds definately going to be females or can they go Hermie on me? And if they go Hermie, can I trim the sacs or preflowers to prevent them from developing??? Any help is appreciated. By the way, I have spent many hours reading your posts Roseman and it is clear that you know your stuff. Thanks for all the knowledge and any advice.

Thanks for the Advanced Nutrients info, I hope to order some today.

I do wait a little later to remove my males to allow the females enough time to be sure they are females.

It just happens, no matter what. Remove a male and female goes hermie.
Whack the hermies floer-balls off, and it makes more balls and will continue too.

They are 100% females, and going hermie is possible and does happen but not as likely.
I do see an ocasional person on this site say their feminized female went hermie on them.

Thank you for the compliment. I know some stuff, but you're asking questions I am not 100% positive of. I always remove all the males and I still always find 5 or 6 seeds later telling me I missed a hermie. They are determined to grow and make some seeds.

Thank you. Found a few more "balls" today but not to drastic. Since it is the only plant I have left from my late Father's final grow, I am going to let it go and see where it takes me. The buds look nice and I have put a lot of time into it so I guess we'll see. I will harvest the outdoor plant and clean like crazy before I start the feminized grow. Still waiting on the seeds anyhow. All the seedy pot I've bought in the past, cleaning a few seeds for sentimental value won't kill me! Thanks again. I'll let you know how it turns out. Only a couple of weeks left at most.

I hope this thread helps new growers over come the fear of cutting out males adn the roots.
