What are the first signs of flowering

Hello everyone. I have grown a couple years now, but still learning. I don't know what to consider the first stage of flowering, or the first week. It would be great if someone had a pic, but verbal will work too. I posted a pic of mine, but I could not seem to get it in focus. Figure I might as well post a pic of one of my babies too. Thanks!bongsmilie

The calyxs will develope white hairs, the very first white hair represents the first sign of flowering and means you can begin tallying the weeks. On the tops you will begin to notice a change in size of leaves and color, this also represents flowering and shows signs of budding.

I guess I should specify. These were clones, so they have had white hairs since they were babies. So when do I start counting weeks in this case?

I am having a strage thing happen. I have an outdoor grow, that appears to be going into flower. These are clones that are about 10 weeks old getting about 10 hours of direct sunlight (by direct sunlight, i mean the sun is shining on them- It sunrise and sunset still give 15+ hours of light".

Is it possible that these plants could just start to flower? The plant looks healthy as hell, but i know that i have cronically overwatered.

The plants are only about 28 inches from the dirt, and i would prefer to wait a while before they flower.

Is it possible that overwatering can cause a plant to flower in 15/9 conditions? Plant is Hindu Skunk in Fox Farms soil, 5 gallon plants.

You mean to tell me you grow monsters like those and dont know what signs of flowering are? OK...Sure. First off, you should see some stretching. the plants will gain alot of size before you even see the first hair. Then you will notice the calyx begin to form at internodes. These calyxs may or may not have white hairs dependind on age. Did you start that earlier this year? Was gonna get me an outdoor going but just never got off my ass to do it. The Indoor is coming along nicely though.

I know what the first signs of flowering are when I grow from seeds. But these clones have had many white hairs thoughout their whole veg stage. So I was a little confused about when to start counting weeks of flowering. I can now tell that they are definitely in flowering. The leaves are starting to group a bit. Thanks for the info everyone. This is the best site I have joined yet! Everyone is really friendly.

So to answer a couple questions:

I started these lovely ladies in Mid April and all I did was dig 4' w x 4' d and mix some Organic potting soil by about half with my native soil. I also mixed in some perlite and steer manure but I don't know any ratios. I keep alot of water in the soil because it gets a blazing 105 - 110 deg. here in the summer. That's all I have done. No nutes at all. Crazy, huh? My soil is really good on my property. The last couple years I just planted them straight into the ground. I had some 13 ft., 5 lb. results. Good years!:weed:

I will keep everyone posted on the progress, if interested. Thanks again. Happy growing!

This is what your looking for.
i have a few plants that i have grown from clone and they look just like this but at the top of them they are getting little balls. now male plants showed sex here over 3 weeks ago and im not understanding this. i dont have a camera so i was wondering if someone had a picture of a female plant top just beginning the flower stage? i dont want to cut these plants down before im sure because they are over 7' tall and it would be a shame to loose out on a couple this size because i made a mistake.

*DISCLAIMER-I am no way saying this is the right or wrong way. I myself have grown to believe that "flowering" starts at the first signs of flowers. (Which in my case, always start in Vegging, due to pre-flowers) But I actually have started counting from the "Real Signs" of flowering(normally 7-14 days after the flip to 12/12) I STRONGLY believe in checking the Trichs, is a major factor in harvest. I also think of the flowering times provided by the breeders are just guidelines. I am also in NO WAY trying to start arguments. I have posted 1 of these emails in another thread, where some A-hole had to be put in his place, for trying to say I was "lying" about the emails, because the breeder wouldn't say something that stupid. When I posted a pic taken DIRECTLY from the breeders website, and provided him with a link to the breeder's website and the breeder's email address..... Needless to say the A-hole never commented back. I'm not doing this for any reason but bringing knowledge to the rest of my bro's and sis. I am not saying I agree with the breeders. I just emailed them and watever they emailed me back, I have posted. All I did is google "When do you start counting flowering", and watever cannabis community I was registered to, I posted this in the threads best suited. NO MATTER HOW OLD THEY WERE!
So please, I hope u guys can appreciate the time I took to write these breeders. And out of 12-15 breeders that I wrote, these 2 were the only 2 that responded, IMMEDIATELY! All I have done is copied and pasted from my email to thread. If I get more replies, I plan on startin a thread based on this topic. "When do BREEDERS start counting....."

I know this thread is OLD as hell. BUT!!!!!! After reading a bunch of different websites, I decided to write a breeder myself, and see if they would respond. I decided to go with Greenhouse Seeds, and they replied my email in less than 24 hours. I am only posting this to help any future people wondering when the breeders themselves start counting. I hope this help someone in the future. Now I know that this is only 1 breeder, and I will try to email a few more, but for now....... Here is a copy of my email from Greenhouse Seeds.

Dear XXXXXXXXXXXXXX(my name doesn't matter),

Thank you for your email.

You start counting from the moment you switch the light to 12/12. The
flowering time depends on which strain you are growing. If you completed the
flowering weeks and the hairs are still quite white you can leave them a bit
longer. When 20-30% of the hairs become brown they are ready.

Kind regards,

GHSC

This next 1 is from Ceres Seeds.

I'm gonna start adding these Disclaimers to my posts, to avoid arguments. LMFAO!

*THIS DOES NOT MEAN I AGREE WITH THESE EMAILS, AND THAT IS THE CORRECT WAY. I AM JUST POSTING THEM TO ANSWER PEOPLE'S QUESTIONS ABOUT WHEN BREEDER'S STAR COUNTING.

*I hope I don't offend any breeder's out there by posting these emails. This is for the SOLE purpose of people's E-JEW-MAH-KAY-SHION(EDUCATION FOR THOSE WHO AREN'T EDUCATED, LOL. JUST KIDDIN PPL. SMILE!). It does NOT mean that we are actually growing any cannabis. Unless it is allowed in our country:weed:.

Hai xxxxxxxx.(once again my name is IRRELEVANT:shock:)

the correct answer would be from the moment you switch from 18/12 to 12/12.
Of course the stated flowering times are indications. You might want to flower a
couple of days longer or shorter, depending on your circumstances .

Good luck.
Louis
