I don't really understand people that fly the confederate flag. Does that mean you don't support the union? Or you support slavery? Or you just think it's cool cause you're from the south? If you just think its cool cause you're from the south, thats cool I guess. But I just moved to some shitty rural town in CA, and I see people with the confederate flag, and it makes me wonder. I sure hope they are originally from the south.

To some it is non union, or supporting slavery.
To me its just heritage. From the south.

All in all, I fly the tennessee flag.

I know in the Navy we flew a don't read on me flag, it is the union jack.
Well I apologize if I offend any Navy people on this, I was not aware that they used it (just found out they did in 2002 all ships against terrorism).

But it was more to the tards that think it is so cool and makes them patriots to have it.

Kind of like idiots going to the mall for their goth gear and thinking that they are the only ones that can understand the ramones.

I mean seriously isn't a goth store in the mall the absolute meaning of the word ironic?

Personal, I fly the confederate flag because I would have fought on the side of the confederacy in the war if I had lived then. I'm not for slavery but I believe the war was a turning point in the freedom of both whites and blacks. Blacks were freed from slavery but at the same time we all started down a path of less freedom for the states and as individuals ourselves. There were more reasons than slavery for the civil war. i believe the individual states freely joined into the Union so any that wanted to had every right to opt out of it if they chose. The fact is that half the country wanted out. So basically I'm a strong proponent of States Rights over those of the Federal government. The fed gov should be there to fight wars against foreign aggressors and thats about it. Not subjugate and rule over the free states. You have to remember that at that time Many if not most Americans cared more for their home state than they did for the country as a whole. You took as much or more pride in being a Virginian as they did an American. The war of northern aggression changed all that and I don't particularly like it. Slavery would have died out on it's own as new technologies came along that made it unprofitable.

I see, well thats cool I guess. But the US had tried a confederation, and it didn't work too well...it wouldnt have worked out well for the south either, which had it succeeded, would have undoubtedly began to consolidate. The civil war was more about slavery, than it was states rights, though.

Or maybe I just read Harry turtledoves book Guns of the South at an influencial age......lol.

Always thought a lot of Lee as a General. If they hadn't run out of resources the south may very well have won their freedom. Wether the Confederacy could have worked well long term or not i can't say and wouldn't guess.

you seem to forget that SLAVERY is free labor... all the patron had to do was house the slaves... not even feed them, cuz they grew their own food... there is nothing unprofitable about slavery, it's just wrong...

i will agree with you about the federal government and individual states rights....

but don't bring up slavery, slavery was wrong and it's reprehensible... i'm glad the civil war was fought, because most of the confederates just thought they owned black people... ... it's disgusting...

You can pay one guy to run a cotton picker cheaper than you can house the 100 people to pick the same amount of cotton wether they grow their own food or not. The fact that a machine can do the work makes the use of large numbers of slaves obsolete regardless of how cheap their labor is. It wouldn't have happened overnight but it would have happened. It would eventually take hundreds to do the work of one machine and that isn't gonna work. Ok, back on topic we go............

So are you trying to say its OK for slavery as long as it profitable. Never mind about morality.

He didn't say slavery was ok, he just said it would most likely have been abolished anyways as it became less profitable.

But what he does seem to say is that the north should not have fought the south (using slavery as a excuse, I know this wasn't the real or only reason) as slavery would have eventually ended. Meaning it was OK for slavery to have continued until it became unprofitable. I don't for a second think Warlord is actually condoning slavery but it should never have existed in the first place.

Slavery wouldn't have ended anytime soon in the south after the civil war, it was just as much as a social status issue as it was a economic issue.

Field slaves would have fallen out of favor, but house slaves would have stuck around for a long time.
