What is RO water

Me too.

Consequently, I am very particular about how much Ca I use, as too much can lock out other nutrients.

As little as 10% left over from municipal water of 400 could cause problems: 20%+ most assuredly.

Do not assume our RO consistently rejects 90%. Check it each time

i get about 45 psi out of the line i have on my r/o filter. that is after it comes through a pressure booster system. water pressure here in costa rica is notoriously low. before filtration i have water that is 145-160ppm. unfortunately here you can't get mineral concentrations from the municipal water companies so i decided to filter my water. i bought a hydro logic big boy pre-filter and the hydro logic evolution 1000 r/o filter. my water after filtration is between 8-12ppm. i've had the unit for 2 years and still haven't changed the cartridges on the pre-filter or the r/o filter. when growing bud i would call anything under 30ppm close enough. under 15ppm is pretty darn clean to me in comparison to what you start with. most r/o units are designed to stay charged so clogging is not an issue. we're not trying to do "scientific" tests here. we're trying to grow a plant.

As it relates to the % of Ca OK, but do you have any idea what other shit is in your municipal water? Do a search, you won't be too happy, but you will be informed

... don't need r/o water if your tap is 140 or even 250. R/O water isn't really necessary if you don't have ridiculous hardness or well water which is high in minerals. The same stuff you are removing using to is some if the same stuff you end up putting back in. If you have good tap water save money and use that. A fool will find a million ways to over complicate an other wise easy thing.

ETA almost all water companies gave reports on the water quality. If it's not posted on their website, call and ask I'm sure you can get your hands on it.

I know exactly what's in my water. Feel free to check out Detroit Water and identity what I should be concerned about. People seem to have an irrational fear of what they don't understand

i have checked it every time I fed my plants for 2 years and it's always the same. I have to feed every 2-3 days and sometimes more often when counting my veg room. It's always right in that 10ppm range. I'm really happy with my filter and would recommend anyone with a good knowledge of growing look into a more stringent control over what they feed their plants by getting one. I definitely saw a difference when I switched to r/o water. More control over my plants food gave me more consistent runs and better yields.

Scooby, you are very lucky to have such low TDS, but who knows what it consists of. Low TDS will not quickly foul a RO membrane, whereas 350+ will

i read an an article somewhere that said the national average in the U.S. was 150ppm. seemed about right in comparison to what I have read on this site. I don't think 250+ is all that common.

Maybe you are thinking of a different word? Is English your first language? Is someone selling tap water where you are and calling it distilled?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distilled_water

"In chemical and biological laboratories, as well as industry, cheaper alternatives such as deionized water are preferred over distilled water. However, if these alternatives are not sufficiently pure, distilled water is used. Where exceptionally high purity water is required, double distilled water is used."

Again, distilled is the gold standard of pure water.

get a ppm meter and a jug of distilled water then come talk to me. not even close.

That 150 ppm would surprise you, some of us in the us have some very high ppm water. I live out in the country in Michigan, our water comes out the tap at 7.0 ph and a 200 ppm...well water. I've had the same read outs for the past five years out the well. It changes to 6.9 sometimes through the winter. I've seen some people's water in the 400 ppm range and an ro unit changed there lives as far as the garden is concerned.

like i said, go buy a gallon from your grocery store and stick a ppm meter in it. better yet go buy a gallon from several grocery stores and test them all. you'll see. we're not talking about laboratory distilled water cause most people don't have access to that. just like we're not talking about commercial r/o machines which actually produce 0ppm water cause those machines cost $15,000+. let me guess...you don't own a ppm meter?

judging by this thread (https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/654052-first-timer-problems-calmag.html) you posted a few months ago begging for help with your week old plant that was sitting in hydroton and water and the fact you didn't even know how to sex a plant...i'll take my advice from somewhere else. calmag? seriously? wow? ugghh...your plant is drowning, shouldn't be getting nutes, and you probably killed it with the cup of hydrogen peroxide you put in the mix. lmao!

before you start talking shit to people on a mj forum you might wanna actually learn how to grow a plant. how is that sickly looking thing you posted doing? probably dead right? concentrate on learning how to keep a plant alive. that already seems to be too much for you.

i'm all for r/o filters as i stated before. i have one in every house i own because i actually prefer to drink r/o water. plus i have used it in my grows for several years now. i just think that 150ppm is about average for most people. i understand that some peoples water is much higher but on this forum and in all the places i have lived that seems to be the average. i may be wrong though.

Lol, really? Take a good look at the "plant" in that picture. It's just a leaf held up by a pen........

That thread was created to bait "experts" like you into actually trying to find what was wrong.

That's pretty good for well water. No need for RO unless you have ridiculous iron or sulfur content. granted trace amounts are needed anyways.

Not sure what you're getting at here. It would be much appreciated if you posted on my "please help me" thread the same advice you gave me here. Thanks [sucker]. You thought a mangled fan leaf that was taped to a pen was an over-watered plant. Shows how much experience you have. *cough* sucker *cough*.

that's why you have no plant pics up and keep asking stupid questions all over the forum. i doubt you even grow marijuana. you're just here cause you have no friends and nothing better to do with your time. go check out Facebook toolbag. post some plant pics or stfu newb.
