What is Your Opinion of the Pledge of Allegiance?

That's awfully cowardice of you. If you don't have anything worth dying for, then you are not living.
settle down, skippy.

i was commenting on the complacency of the average american. that makes me a coward? or, as you so ineptly put it, 'awfully cowardice'? i wish you could say that to my face so i could deck you and show you who the coward is.

perhaps if this life is so miserable, as you stated earlier in this thread, and you need to have beliefs worth dying for, maybe you should go martyr yourself somewhere and quit preaching to us with your repugnant grammar.

have a nice day.

I don't recite the Pledge of Allegiance to show my patriotism to the government of my country. I recite the Pledge of Allegiance to show my loyalty and HONOR to YOU, my fellow citizens. I recite the Pledge of Allegiance in public, with my right hand over my heart to show YOU that I, as a citizens of the U.S., am proud to stand up to let everyone know that I would gladly assist YOU, the one that insists on sitting down through that pledge (basically giving ME the middle finger) through the tough times, through our times of fighting for our freedoms, through YOUR times of need, through OUR difficult times of understanding each others religious differences.

Yes. . . I DO recite the Pledge of Allegiance, in hopes that YOU will join me, in hopes that you will recite with me, to let me know "hey man, I've got your back just like you've got mine". Yes, I DO recite the Pledge of Allegiance for ME. I also recite the Pledge of Allegiance for YOU!

I appologize, I didn't realize this thread was about who could use their best grammar to impress YOU! Had I known that, I would have whipped out my "Book of Style". And yes, if you don't know what that is, then you don't have the knowledge to bust anyone's ass about grammar, etc. Yeah, I did use a word incorrectly. I guess that must make your argument regarding the thread topic more relevant? Don't try using the "grammar and spelling" argument with me just to drive home YOUR off topic point. I AM one of the GRAMMAR and SPELLING Nazi's on RIU! Tard!

That makes no sense to me at all. You've read the pledge right?

Also, regarding this post of yours UncleBuck, (Shaped like John Candy maybe?) with the whole "say that to my face so I could deck you and show you who the coward is" comment. . . doesn't that kind of go against the aforementioned argument of yours where you're trying to incite the idea of removing the pledge from our culture so people don't feel forced to HAVE to do things through force? Isn't force and violence kind of one in the same with the thread topic? Just curious.

Yeah I have. In fact. . . if you had actually read my second post in this thread with any comprehension whatsoever, it would make sense to you. The problem is, you only see what the pledge is from a "hate the idea of the word God in the Pledge of Allegiance" liberal, don't have to understand anybody except myself, point of view.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining it correctly. I'm not saying by reciting the pledge you're a brainwashed zombie. I'm saying that the way society views it, as documented by this thread, is wrong. People who choose not to recite it are ostracized and disciplined. That's some seriously Nazi shit right there. I thought I had the freedom of choice in this country. The entire thing is one huge contradiction to anyone paying attention. It does not honor anyone. It demeans their memory and fails to live up to the message it sends. All while presenting a false image of patriotism - just like the religions do with morality - to get a free pass through society.

Like I said before, I don't give out free passes.
Of course it's all a sham bro! Say this, but mean that, do as I say, not as I do, talk shit about your neighbor behind his back but be nice and civil to his face. People who don't play by the rules, so to speak, are usually ostracized and ridiculed. Everybody has a choice to make; either you play "the game" and you get through life relatively comfortably or you buck the system and denounce everything you don't agree with openly and you will probably meet with friction for the rest of your days. We all have to decide what type of person we are going to be. The hippy generation is a prime example of this. Most of them eventually sold out and traded in their tie dye shirts and beads for pin stripes and silk ties. Sure, there are a relative few hardcore holdouts, but most of them got tired of being "hassled by the man" and they assimilated, blended in, they started playing "the game". Life is full of contradictions and deceptions. You have to pick your battles or else you will only end up spinning your tires, getting nowhere, and before long you realize that the world didn't change one bit because of a few people standing up for their principles or whatever. The world is one fucked up yet wonderful place.:peace:

I sure am glad MLK, JFK, RFK, Lincoln and others did not share your viewpoint. But those people aren't important are they? Only those who tow the line should be taken seriously, right? Why even vote? Why don't we just have a tyrant king who has minions who tell us how to do everything in life until we die or are no longer useful to society. They should just put us all in factories building things for the important people like bankers and politicians. We, the little people, do not matter.

Didn't they? Sure there are a few "rebels with a cause" like Ghandi, but look at what he had to endure. Look at what all the people you mentioned endured. Every one of them dead before their time. I'm not telling anybody what to do. I'm just telling them what they can expect if they choose to behave a certain way. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, just that this is the way it is. Am I wrong?:-?

BTW those folks are stellar examples that prove my point.

in my experience it was the nerd liberals who craved attention that made a big deal of this, nobody else gave a shit and said it.

That was always such a big insult in high school. I was always known as the nerd in school. I hated people calling me a nerd.

I take that back. You're not all nerds. Some of you may have a screw or two loose, but you're not nerds.

I wonder, were you calling me a coward and if you were calling me a coward, what are your credentials? I was in Viet Nam, I saw all the horrers of war, the blown up and burned up bodies, women and kids as well as soldiers. What I consider worth dying for is protecting my family and loved ones, probably from righties like you. I would not sign up to die in some unnecessary war like the two moneymakers going at present. If you are not intelligent enough to look behind the scenes, and would just go sign up to fight for a corrupt government like ours for reasons known only to those in charge, while lying to the public to get support for their profitable wars, then sir, you are a dumbass.

there was one major difference that would be a game changer if it happened: there was a draft in vietnam. institute a draft today and watch support for the wars plummet.

Med, what the hell are you talking about? You hadn't even come onto the scene with this thread when I posted that comment. Why the hell are you always picking on me anyway? LOL! Hey BTW, you sold all your lighting equimpment, didn't you?

I'm looking for a good, cost effective (cheap!) HPS system. Just need something small, about 400W or so. I had been using CFL's but now I'm wanting to move up a bit in my indoor growing technology. I checked with one of the local hydro shops. . . they have a decent 1000W HPS for $350 out the door but I'm just not ready to get that serious about that yet.
