Yup. Can't go wrong with a 4 foot 4 bulb t5 fixture as far as bang for your buck goes.
Get a flourecent light for babys. I use a round flourecent bulb I found in a hardware store for ten bucks. A lot of people say use t5's but I have used just about all the flourecents and they all work fine. You will ned to buy a biger flourecent light which will cost you around 30 bucks for the ballast and two bulbs probly. If you want just start out with that and then you wont have to spend ten bucks on the other light. You can flourecents untill you reach flowering if you choose to but if you can use a 400 watt HPS digital fanless (ballasts with fans dont last as long due to water going into the ballast) ballast when the plant gets older. The ballast you need is $189.90. Get the one that says 400 watt digital ballast HPS/MH. That way it can convert from HPS to MH bulbs so you get different light spectrums during different stages. You will learn about that later. This ballast is the cheapest and best new ballast and light kit you can get. If you want you can find a used one on craigslist. Make sure you use the 400 watt light for flowering. If you use the flourecent light for flowering the buds on the plant will be smaller and less compact. So get a 400 watt HPS and a flourecent light. This is exactly wat you need and you will get the best results. Plus itl only cost you about 350 bucks or less.

A Magnetic ballast rather than digital but it is $3.00 cheaper than the 250-watt HPS/MH magnetic ballast system.

Nope ... you can't beat the sun ... but it can be difficult to use it inside especially in a basement or a closet or attic, and even more so in the winter.

Go to www.htgsupply.com my buddy just got a 400w hps/mh conversion set up for $169.99 You get a hood, balast w/ 10' cord and both 400w HPS bulb and the 400w MH conversion bulb along w/ a heavy duty dual timer. Other wise you can get just the hood and balast for $119.00

Use CFl's or some of the long tube fluro's for your first grow. Get that book "buds for less", follow that, and do plenty of reading. CFL's are good to start with, once you get one or two under your belt you will want to upgrade to a HPS or MH. Dont let anyone fool you, CFL's grow killer bud.
