I bought a digital timer at Lowe's with a 3rd prong (safety feature) for $17. This timer can do everything put tie my shoes. Only reason I got it was because I had a gift card for $25. Picked up the timer, pots and a thermometer. Only ended up costing me 46 cents.

Just make sure the timer will handle at least 15 amps, and it's best to use a grounded (3-prong plug) type.
