A friend of mine swore he got going with about $60. He built his own systems and got a cheap light, not sure which systems he built or if he did it with soil or what. I'm sure the diy guys have started off from pretty much nothing before.

If you cover everything, from lighting to ventilation to genetics to system... You can do it for anywhere between $500 and $1,500. I think a simple system, maybe $500 in lighting and ventilation with a 4x4 tent growing in organics... You could do that for around $800 to $1000.

Of course, the return on the investment is ounces of bud worth much more than the initial setup cost and you get repeatability after the first grow. Pays for itself 100 times over.

keeping it all climate controlled is the biggest cost, IMO. lights are cheap. figure your cooling solution first. start off with what you can afford. if all that is is keeping a 400 watt cool, start there.

Could do it pretty cheap to be honest. id say 500$ could get you a good light, all your soil and pots, and adequate venting for a small space. You will have to shop around and plan ahead or you will spend more than that. HPS can be used from beginning to end with some supplemental CFLs for veg (imo). Also depends on what you already have. Youll need timer (a good one), thermometer, ph tester, nutes. All of those are optional I guess but HIGHLY recommended to have. Seeds can also be costly, they can also be free but if you want good genetics, you usually have to pay... I don't see how 300$ would get you everything

300 bucks would pay for a light and the filter, still need fans, nutes , containers meters, ph solutions. and so much more.

i said, i could do it, i dont need big fans or container meters or ph solutions and all that, i need a light, small fan, soil and seed. (usually make my own ferts and dirt cheap)

i could also do it for 10$,start a grow, but he said 4-6 plants, would need at least 60 bucks for that and if i wanted to do it properly, id need a 400-600w for that.

now if i used a small closet, not a big room, id probably need more shit. (or if i wanted to mess around with water)

so, thats a really vague question from the original poster. (as from most newbs)

If I had a budget of $60 for a grow I would buy 2 vanity light fixtures from home depot at about $15 each and eight 26w CFL's for about $20 Light timer for $5 and some superthrive. I'd find pots, use backyard soil and tap water. planting 6 plants, flip to 12/12 soon as they rooted. Low stress training, and expect about 1 oz in the end.

Honestly the question is very vague but still, welcome :D
You should read up on types of growing, in earth or water and whether you want to build a cabinet/ tent or use an existing space.
There is a lot to consider and you should take all the time you need to gain some education as to what will work for you.

Best climate control aid is a vented light hands down.
A cool tube or the like takes the light completely out of the equation and you can vent your area based on your ambient conditions.

taking everything into consideration for 8 plants i would suggest out of them 8 plants you get 2 females :)) either way if your new at growing start off small thats the bottom line cheap as you can.Theres no way to come up with a cost to make a 8 plant grow just do it as cheap as possible so if you fail your not holding onto lots of valued gear

my power bill exceeds 900 a month thats for just grow
C02 system initial cost 1500.00 at 200.00 + overall costs
light bulbs 275.00 x 10 ( 10,000 watts )
ferts Veg an flowering 600.00 a month
i can go on an on
