What Kinds Of Questions Do You NOT Answer?

The good people at RIU respond to some questions and ignore others. Of those that are ignored, many are times when we'd like to help but just don't have any useful information. There are also many situations where it's actually what the person is asking or even how they're asking it that stops people from answering. Some people are so far off the mark that it's just too much effort to help them. Others have weird beliefs about growing that you can only roll your eyes at. Tell us about what causes these situations for you; what makes you roll your eyes and move on to the next post. Complain about what stupid questions idiots ask. Educate future posters how not to incur your wrath. Help them get the maximum number of intelligent responses for their problems.

What kinds of questions do you not answer?

Let's assume that there are exceptions to any responses posted in this thread.
For anyone who has asked any of these questions before, the people in this thread mean no offense and probably did the same thing years ago.

Here are the kinds of questions that one or both of us typically don't reply to and we've even included a few of the answers that we usually don't say:

"What do you think of my....plant, grow room, etc." -It's lovely, just lovely.

"What do you think my yield will be?" -With these two-dimensional, not-actual-size pics that look different on every computer, we'll have an exact number for you any minute now.

"How much longer before....flowering, harvest, etc." -The amount of time between now and when you do it.

"What would you do if...." -I'd smoke some weed.

-Many that are no longer on the first page or two of the forum.
-First time growers growing seedlings in most types of hydro.
-Questions that require us to click any links.
-Most questions regarding sick plants with no pics.
-When the title doesn't suggest that there's any problem or question.
-People asking for complete how-to's.
-People insisting that they can only get fertilizers at Walmart & asking which to buy.
-Extremely long posts, especially ones crammed into too few paragraphs.
-People just asking for "general advice."
-Threads that many people have already responded to.
-People who get pissed at others trying to help.
-People asking for clones.
-People asking who lives near them or for any other personal information.
-People selling stuff.

Things that help get a reply:
-Being currently online
-Having no or few replies
-Writing intelligibly
-Being polite. For someone who we know is a good person, almost any of these issues can be temporarily disregarded.

I don't "ignore" questions.

I do ignore how some questions are asked.

For example:
"PLZ CH3K OUT MAH GROW WUT DO U THINK?????????????????????????????????????????????????"

Any post with more than two question marks gets ignored entirely.

I also ignore all the grow journals that are placed in this section of the forums.

There is more, but you get the general idea.

I ignore the simple ones that are answered with a simple search, yields. best strain, how do they look, or like the guy above said any thread that has a sense of blackness, I avoid.
But sometimes like this morning after a bowl or two I go into the boards and answer everyone that I read, karma and all.

Sounds like the OP is an arrogant ass that doesnt remember the times when he/she first started growing. It is an exciting and scary thing to do. So I say those of you who ignore the "NEWBIES" silly questions should think back.

I do get irridated myself at the ones who ask about plant problems with NO PIC!!!

I ignore it if it's stupid or lazy or pointless post whoring. Although it's happening so much these days that i tend to just go in and give a cocky sarcastic comment instead of being helpful :)

On the whole though the level of stupidity just astounds me, i don't know if it's minors or just dumb stoners, but damn, i kinda just started to give up on posting. I mean damn, i'm trying to promote cannabis as this good thing, that normal people smoke, just like a beer, if i came onto this forum as a stranger, any stereotypes of stoners being dumb lazy and all that lot, it would certainly be re-affirmed for me from browsing some threads.

Being new to something has nothing to do with being stupid or lazy. Here's an example that HAS happened, more than i can count, across all areas of the hobby

"hey guys, i'm new and just wondering what a good brand of nutes are "

"hey man welcom, give canna a go, they work very well for lots of folk and are cheap and cheerful"

"kool, where can i buy those?"

fuck off, i've given you a suggestion, if you're that retarded that you can't then go and buy it, then i really odn't want anything more to do with you :D

Personally, I try to answer questions that the grower has kept neat and concise with as much legitimate information (within reason) as possible with pictures. For example, if a grower mentions the brand of fan they are using it is starting to wander into the area of "who cares?" and I usually disregard those posts. I recently looked at a thread that went 5 pages of back and forth questions until the grower finally figured out how to post pictures so I stick to my usual motto of "no pics, no advice." In grow journals, the one thing that gets under my skin is the over-posting of pics during the entire grow. 3-4 pics/week is adequate to get an idea on how things are progressing. I have even seen people post pics of their seed. Give me a fucking break...please.

We frequent a few different forums on different topics and let me tell you, it's not just the pot making people stupid. With the ones it does, at least it's a temporary effect, and by far not the worst effect out there.

We totally agree with Carl up there. It would be nice if everyone would just make folders of the best shots during their grows and then post a short timeline of pics at harvest. However, we totally understand how hard it can be to hold your wad. It's an exciting hobby.

This guy is a noob of the worst kind. I've seen him give terrible advice on more than one occasion. This guy is the kind of person that ruins other peoples grows with his lack of experience.

Post count doesn't = experience guy

The point is that the answers to most of these silly questions are blatantly obvious... or to be found in a blatantly obvious section of the forums.

Wouldn't have the slightest inkling who exactly you're referring to.

It kind of gets to me when people post with zero regard to grammar and punctuation. Not expecting everybody to be an English scholar here, but when you use slang gratuitously and have apparently never heard of the comma or period it seriously hinders any likelihood of comprehension. If you can't spell something that's fine but hey you're on the fucking internet and a quick Google search could turn up the correct spelling of virtually any term instantaneously... if not the knowledge you seek.

Another thing that is quite a bit annoying to me is the "look at my babies", "i think my babies is sick", "me so worried bout my babies". Does any real grower in their right mind and of legal age refer to their cannabis plants as 'babies'?
