Lol no it's not that it's just a cover. White on one side, black on the other.
Yea when I transplant, I'll just lay the cover crop over, add 3/4 cup craft blend, and put the top on.

The cover keeps it constantly moist on top. Shit breaks down fast. Worms love it too.

Landscape fabric, aka weed control cloth, is often made of polypropylene and yes it will kill your cover crop, since that's basically what it's designed to do.

What do you mean? The only thing the drip tray is for, is so I can fill the res. When it overflows, it's full. Lol

It's not as breathable as landscape fabric, and more like a shower cap, but yea, same function. It's kinda like having a humidity dome over the soil.

Fungus and bacteria prefer moist conditions. That same fungus and bacteria break down whatever organic matter you feed it. Think of it like a gut. Lol

A 15 gal can hold a little more soil, but I do like the Earth Boxes.

They also require oxygen to do so. A humidity dome over soil sounds like a great way to bread anaerobic bacteria in your medium, which isn't a good thing.

Oxygen comes in from the overflow. As the water level drops, it pulls in oxygen from under the soil.

It holds double the soil. My only complaint about the earthbox so far. It's not very big.
