So i see sub using 10gal pots in his transplanting guide. But then i see him saying to use 7 gal pots in the super soil guide. And it looks like he has 5 gal buckets in his flowering room. So to clear up the confusion. what size pot should i use for veg. and then what for flowering? Also how would 5 gal buckets from home depot work?

How big do you want to grow your plants? I use 5 gallon buckets, the square ones from Uline, and I get pretty decent sized plants. I start them in 6" square pots.

i plan on LSTing them. But i would like some decent sized plants. not too big because i try to fit at least 12 under a 1000 watts.

Do 3 gal they have a smaller outside diameter so they can be bunched closer together and have the light as close a possible, I do 12 under 1 1000 dont veg them for more than 35 days and you will be fine

LST is the way to go

ill never understand why people chime in about pot size in subs forum. this is a super soil grow. meaning water only start to finish. that means a large enough container for the hot and space for the roots. smaller pots wont work as they run out of juice way early and become rootbound. If you are creating multiple threads about powdered calmag then im assuming you want to do this by the book. y you would even be considering little pots and/or squeezing 12 under a light is odd. and more likely you haven't been paying attention to all the info here.

Unless space is a big issue why not just run them start to finish in a 7 or 10 gal? Mixing in your super soil accordingly of course.

Me too. Except I use five gal plastic kitchen garbage "cans". Same reason, tho--round containers take up too much space. Square or rectangular footprints dont waste ANY space because you can set them right beside each other.

If I used five gal round buckets, two is all I can REALLY fit under my 600w. HPS. But with the rectangular garbage containers, I can get 4.

I mean, OK, you can squeeze 4 buckets in, but the outside edges of all four plants dont get under the light. Make sense?

In a five gal you can easily grow a plant that finishes at 4-5 feet tall.

I start mine in 12 oz. Solo cups from Walmart then move them to the big container when they're 8-10 inches tall.

BTW, I grow Hempy style.

For 12 plants, one gal from start to finish is fine. Each plant will finish out at around 2 feet tall and give you 1-2 oz more or less per plant. A 1K gives you 12 square feet of light, right? Put one one gal. container in each sq. foot.

There is no possible way to get 12 five gal. containers under one 1K. Now, you could have say, six 3 gal. containers and finish out at around 3 feet. Fewer but BIGGER plants give the same total weight. The point is, it doesnt matter all that much how many plants. 12 small ones that produce one oz each or two huge ones six oz each....ya still got 12 oz.

The questions are, how long do you want to veg? Small ones dont need to veg as long. On the other hand, depending on where you live, it may be safer to have 4 big ones than a dozen smalls for legal reasons. Where I live, under 10 plants is considered "personal use". More than 10, regardless of their size, is considered "intent to sell". Stupid,, but hey....it sounds a lot better when the cops can say, "WE busted a grow of 12 plants!" than, "We busted a grow of two plants!"

So....something to think about.

Ive grown a number of one gal. 12 plant grows but for me, I prefer 4 five gal. plants. It's all a matter of what you like.

If you're gonna finish in any container smaller than 7 gallons, you won't be able to use super soil as a just-add-water recipe. You're going to have to give liquid feed, and if you're going to that trouble, why even use super soil anyway? The whole point of using super soil is for simplicity. In my experience, even 7 gallon pots are too small. 10's are the way to go. I use CO2 and 1kw's though and that's probably why the girls eat so much.

Also, it wouldn't matter what shape my pots are because my girls are MUCH wider than the pot when they finish. Like, two to three feet wide. I can barely squeeze four plants under a 1kw. I root cuts in an aero cloner, toss 'em in #1 pots (which aren't really a full gallon, btw) full of Roots, top them early, veg them for about three weeks, transplant into 10 gal pots with 4.5 gallons of super soil on the bottom, plain Roots on top and then veg 'em out and LST to about 30" tall with between four to eight tops depending on the cut. Plants finish between 4 and 5 ft tall, big fat bushes.

Good luck to the OP. I think you may be over thinking things. Follow sub's instructions EXACTLY and you'll do fine. His method is very well documented on numerous forums, including this one, and on YouTube.

yea brother, definetly over thinking this. :?

Right now i got 12, 3 gal growbags under my 1000 hps. I get a oz per plant but that is def not good enough for me. thats not even a lb a light, i can do better.. im gonna go with the 7 gal pots, probably 6 under hps.

I use supersoil in <1 gallons and do not run into any problems, maybe its my complete veg soil that I top off with that gets em through, I don't even have fade anymore.
