Ok Im totally sold Im going to give it a try this weekend.

When it comes to germinating my success rate is high however when ever I place the seeds (after the taproot is visible) in rockwool for a week or so to sprout they seem to die (mould starts to grow around the seed). Can you share your method of growing with the miracle soil to increase the success rate for sprouts (e.g. temps, humidity, how much water to feed in the beginning, how much water there after, when do you switch on the lights for the 1st time etc)

By the way thats a great setup you have & a delicious bunch of plants slurp slurp :weed:
right.....

well my method wasn't exactly well thought out or planned. but hey, worked absolutely fine for me.

here's what i did.

i germinated my seeds for a few days, made sure they had a good strong, long tap root.

i put them straight into soil, root down. making a hole about 10mm deep, placed the seeds in the hole and cover with soil. so that the seed was about 5mm under soil.

for watering i used a sprayer, i didn't pour water on my seedlings, EVER!

Make sure the top of the soil is moist, you don't want to be soaking all the way through.

i placed there on a window sill for a while. sometimes i would also place them under a very small fluorescent light. they lived happily on the window sill for a while until they were quite large.

not sure on humidity but i guess temps were around 70 - 80 Fahrenheit.

i didn't feed them anything until they were into flowering, i really don't think they need more. the soil should contain plenty. they will show you if they want more.

i put them under my 600W hps lamp pretty soon after, when they were only a few inches tall. i kept the light far away until they were old enough to handle it.

feel free to ask more, or for a better explanation.

Im going to purchase the MG soil tomorrow (well today as its already saturday) & after thinking about Ive 2 more quick questions:

1) What nutrients are you using for your seedlings (if any), veg stage, flowering stage & any other additives etc.

2) After seedlings sprout do I need to change the soil or otherwise in order to prepare it for the veg stage or do I just raise the strength of the nutrients? By the way Im using Ionic (Growth Technology) nutrients.

Cheers.

hi,

i didn't use mutrients when they were seedlings or vegging.

the soil seemed to provide them with sufficient food for that stage. although i only vegged "properly" for 2 weeks.

my nutrients are Bio-Bloom by biobizz.

they seem to be doing the job. started off with very small doses and have worked my way up slowly. they are now being fed a lot more than they used to be.

once the seedlings sprout, just let them do the work. sit back and relax for a while. they will sort themselves out. they wont require food at this stage. it will most likely kill them before you've even started.

i used the first one
Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Plant Food

i guess it's design more specifically for the needs of a plant compared to the fruit and vegetable one.

if you look the N-P-K is different in both, and from what i know (very little) the first choice is much better suited for marijuana needs.
if y
I went to b & Q today (supposed to go earlier but got held up) for the Miracle-Gro Organic Choice Plant Food but the contents seemed like grains instead of soil so I purchased the "B&Q Sowing and Cutting Compost 8240G 12L" hopefully thatll do the trick but whats strange is that there is absolutley no trace of NPK values on the packaging. Oh well Ill let you know how it goes thanks again for all your help.

hi. about soils

B&Q Sowing and Cutting Compost 8240G 12L

would be the better choice, it looks like it has very low fert content and basic minerals.

seedlings dont require any fertilizer for a good two/three weeks after coming outta the soil. they store thier own food for this time too give them a new start. growers often mess up and start feeding plants asap and this is wrong.

all a seed requires for its first few weeks of growing is good water, tapwater that has been left too stand for a good 12/24hrs is fine. water your pot and take note of its wieght when watered, in a couple of days pick up pot if it is noticeably lighter the plant needs watering. larger plants you can stick finger into soil an inch or so if soil is dry it needs watering.

MG stuff is fine. i started my plant off with MG pour and feed from b&q. used the correct amounts and in time had no problems what so ever with my plant. i then ran outta liquid fert, i panic i ran too local hardware store gave the dude £3 and came away with a 175ml bottle of BabyBio.

now my plant is flourishing on a mix of babybio and bonemeal . she showed sex at around 3 weeks old and is now in flower, she is 1 month 2 days old. been in flower for a good week now.

Hi Tamzi just purchased the soil you recommended even though I went to purchase the MG soil. Im surprised that there are no NPK values on the packaging is it because it is free from NPK?

Anyone have an opinion of the Canna Coco stuff you can get?? For a soil grow does it work and would it need to be mixed with perlite or anything else??
