What would happen if I gave my plants 14 darkness 10 hours light??

Just curious because a situation arose where the light was off for 16 hours straight and it seemed to have a great affect on the plants... Anyone ever tried it?

They'll flower....as long as plant has equal or less dark over light, the plant flowers. You can flower all the way on 14/10 or 16/8, however using a 12/12 ratio (50/50) gives your plant the greatest opportunity to photosynthesis while remaining in a flowering state.

So more darkness than light is a bad thing? I'm talking 14 hours of darkness and 10 hours of light? I've read some people give them 72 hours of darkness during flowering?

Odds are you'll have smaller buds. The plants need energy to grow, they get energy from light, the more light the more energy, the more energy the more bud.

You're probably thinking of people giving then 48-72 hrs right before harvesting them.

Yeah that might have been it... Cheers! I was about to get carried away with the idea more darkness was a good thing. 8-)

I'll also say my bother grows using 10/14. The bud is always good, but seems like it should be bigger and fuller. Just my 2 cents.:eyesmoke:

Does the longer dark period affect the overall time it takes the plant to flower? I heard that it shortens it somewhere and am trying to confirm/deny this information

Yes..

more dark hrs matures flowers earlier (exp 11/13..10/14 will mature your crop faster and produce a good amount of thc but not as much bud weight)
more day hrs =more growth (exp. Turning your light 13/11 will give you bigger buds not as dense or potent)

I know guys that go:

2weeks (wk 1,2) 12/12 (to male assure they are fully transitioned tin flower)
3weeks (wk3,4,5) 13/11 (to have their buds fill out faster)
2weeks (wk6,7) 10/14 or 8/16 (to get sticky and mature)

They end up saving 1-2weeks every harvest this way

Sounds interesting, anyone else tried to experiment with this? What were your results?

You're talking about 13 hours light then the last weeks 8 hours light right?
