What's this I hear about molasses for the plants.

I hear people using molasses. Is that something you do instead of fertilizer or in addition to and do you mix it with water how much do you use and what's the benefits thanks.

In addition during flower to enhance bud size. Black strap molasses or fancy molasses ☆must be unsulphered
The molasses itself is not enhancing bud size. The plant doesn't eat molasses. What it does do tho is provide food for microbial life which when there is more of them, do a better job at providing nutrients to your plant, resulting in bigger buds (theoretically).

If you are doing pure synthetic nutes then it may not have any benefits to you.
Agreed. However I have seen a few threads on here with people using Recharge with synthetics so maybe if u directly add micros along w the molasses there is some short term benefit?

Blackstrap molasses also contains potassium, which some strains require a LOT of during flower. I use it at 5 ml. per gallon of water, along with calmag during flower in my indoor plants grown in super soil. I use it maybe 4-5 times during flower, so a little less than once a week.

One thing to keep in mind, is it's sweet, so I'm not sure I'd use it outdoors.

I've been adding about 1/4 cup to my compost teas during bloom (5g batches). Intention is to feed microbes in soil which benefit/feed plant. Am growing organically so fits well with my methods--I feed the soil, filled with healthy microbes, which in turn feed the plant.

Can't say if it increases bud size because this is my first year. I will say, however, that the fragrance coming off some of these buds that are ripening is out of this world. Was expecting overpowering pungent skunky smells, this is more like exotic earthy spices and citrus--not overpowering. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the molasses contributes to that...not directly but by helping the soil microbes to flourish.

I use it strictly to combat potassium deficiency...and if it feeds the microbes that's a plus.

I know my plants always look perkier and bigger the following day after feeding them the molasses, so I don't doubt it increases bud size. Anything you do to make your plant healthier will make for bigger bugs.

And if you have ever had plants with potassium deficiency, you'll know that hurts growth. As i said earlier, certain strains require more potassium, and you usually won't know til you see problems.

I keep saying I'm gonna make some molasses cookies out of the stuff too...maybe someday! A little bubble hash mixed in would be great I bet :bigjoint:

He speaks the truth! Though it could have a placebo effect!!
