when do hairs turn red?

I think it depends on strain/environment because pistils wait for pollen and then die off after not finding any, I don't think it has anything to do with dictating ripeness of the plant tbh, although it commonly does occur later in the life cycle of the plant when majority of the pistils die, but I've googled and seen some plants turn all red that early and just continued grow normally.

edit:beat to it :/ lol

Thanks a lot guys, I was assuming heat could do it BC my colas that are directly under the light in the very middle are doing it, and only on top. I have my temperatures under control (77°f usually) but they get A LOT of light. I've also just started flushing a lot BC I've been feeding really heavily since my plants bounced back fron pH problems.

So they can change if they're pollinated, hmm? That's not good news, BC most of them are only on the tops, and only a few of the tops in the center at that. But looking through the colas i am noticing a few random red hairs; always a pair, and just sitting there in a sea of white pistils. I'm actually thinking I've wound up with seeds somehow (no idea, BC I have no Hermies in the tent and haven't seen any nanners). I'm having some other people help me out with that in their thread. Hope like hell I don't, but if I do it looks like only a few.

If it's driving you insane, you can always pluck one of those calyxes off that has red pistils and split it open to see if there is a seed inside.

I've been growing a sativa strain every summer the last few years that are fems and produce huge colas and almost every year I will get some seeds throughout the buds no matter what I do. It's not alot just a few and no its no hermie its always been girls but I will still get some seeds thru em. Also Thor I'm noticing the hairs on the 6 main colas on my current grow are turning red aswell and they are the ones closest to the hps bulb too, looks like the 6 tops will be ready in a week and the rest in atleast another 2-3 weeks. Lighting maybe?. GL mate.

Like stated above not all strains have red hairs, alot of times they're just simply orange.

Black sun, I actually have ripped a couple open and I'm noticing these teeeeny tiny little green specs inside of them, like the size of the head of a needle. I guess I'm just gonna have to give them some more time before I know if they're seeds or not. But they definitely look like microscopic lime green, half transparent seeds.

And brotes, that sounds exactly like what I'm going through with mine, in both cases--the seeds, and the red hairs in the middle.

I have these little spots at the bottom of each node, where there is a calyx swelling right above the stipule. Its like that on almost every node I have on some of my plants. It just seems weird that if they are seeds, that they would have formed so uniformly at these spots throughout the plants.

Fwiw, I've ripped off about ten of those balls. They are mostly open, empty space inside of them but most of them have the tiny, microscopic green specks in them

I had one do this with the hairs...2 weeks before harvest it started popping out the yellow bananas. Never showed anything but female flowers prior to that. Wasn't that big a deal so far into flowering for me. How long have you been flowering?

Well, they started showing pistils August 3rd, but then I had pH problems and they didn't really Develop at all for about 7 or 10 days. so theyve been flowering for 5 weeks but they look comparable to pics i see from other peoples grows at the end of week 4.

Do the pistils attach to the seed growing inside the calyx? Im gonna try and take this pic; its hard to get this plant out its in the very back of my tent, so Im going to try and take it with the hps on but if it doesnt work well ill pull it out and try and get it. But it looks like the calyx has torn open, exposing a seed underneath, and the two pistils are still connected to it.

Im far from a pro but I haven't ever had them things at the nodes Thor but know what your talking about with the little green things,I get them.some turn to seed, some fill with liquid (maybe resin? I don't know) and some dry empty and you can pop em like bubble wrap when they dry. Could be seeds?, or Maybe some kind of stress thing for them growths?.

well if something touches the pistols they will retract and die out because they think its pollen. those little green specs can be found inside all of the calyx i believe. i always have a few that turn because leaves bump into each other from the ocillating fans but i never get seeds but im indoors.

Holy shit you guys are really making my day with with this news, lol. I have been searching and searching but not able to find anything about the growth inside of those things. Maybe its like an ovum? Like a non-fertilized (or pollinated) female part. I hope you're right BC I pulled a small bud off the bottom (very light colored from not getting much light) and it was LOADED with them. It was still a really underdeveloped bud tho and it was kind of hard to tell which were calyxes and which had that little thing in it.

I hope to hell you're right, and yeah those little swollen calyx looking things at the base of my node are just like balloons; they're all empty on in the inside, but with one of those little things.

I had two plants that I pulled early on in my grow and took them outside in veg. They wound up being the only two males, and by the time I went to check on them thy were 3 feet tall with a foot of pollen sacks on top, the leaves were all white from the pollen and everything. I came home (like 45 minute drive) and meant to taken a shower but I didn't, and I'm worries that me being in the house with the pollen might've pollinated them. But, no definite seeds yet, I'll just have to wait and see
