When do YOU transition to flower?

Hey all, I don’t think I’m anywhere close to this point yet... but what do YOU personally look out for when transitioning from VEG to BLOOM? I have heard that the older generation growers go more on days old, rather than anything else? Any tips or hints would be great! I have watched and researched a lot but still a little worried I will do it to early or late haha. I’m not looking for monster plants, but wanting an ok yield per plant... thinking I will have to wait a little longer in VEG to achieve this? I have already topped and they have responded well, with 2 new shoots bursting out instead of 1. For a first timer this was super exciting to see!! Haha Thanks guys!!

PS, they are half way through there 6th week of life, and are NOT showing sex yet. just to give you an idea of where I’m at.

You switch veg to flower when your last flower run finishes, or you have room.
Depends on whether your plants are photoperiod or autoflower. Autos grow and then flower when they are ready to do so. Photo Plants veg under a certain amount of hours of light versus darkness, like 18 hours light/6 hrs darkness. You keep them in veg until you are ready, then you change the light cycle to 12 hours light/ 12 hrs darkness. Then a hormone tells the plant to start flowering.

My girls are photo, and yes I know this, I just didn’t know if keeping them in VEG for longer will make them get to big! I have seen and heard that they double to triple in size when in flower! Is this true? As I’m also dealing with limited space and don’t want to overcrowd them Haha.

Many factors play into overall size, not just veg time.

Not sure how big you're looking for, but this is a Gorilla Glue (left) and Blue Dream (right) that only had 4 weeks of veg taking up 1/2 of a 4'x8'...

Wow! Those are some wicked buds man!! I would only be able to fit 1 of them in my tent! Haha. This is 1 if my girls, 6 weeks in... maybe it’s closer to flower than I thought! And she isn’t actually all yellow like that, just horrible lighting on my phone haha. What do you think? Again keep in mind this is my first ever attempt, and I can only get better I guess. They had a really rough first few weeks while waiting for my tent so that didn’t help at all!

Thanks!

Yours isn't looking bad at all. Well done.
Once you flip she will show you sex and that's when you'll really see her grow. I can put a plant that size into flower and 2 weeks later she's 3+ feet tall.
Like I said before, a lot factors into that though.
But if I can suggest, I'd go ahead and flip.
Get this one under your belt.
No one can give you the knowledge you will get from going through the process.

Think you've got yourself a great start.
Best of luck!

I have always vegged for four to five weeks then flipped em. Keeps things moving room to room. But that's me. you can veg for as long as you like. Space limitations just means you need to prune, lst or whatever to keep the plants in the space allotted. Thats done in veg...When you flip you stop pruning for the most part. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tips! Yes after reading comments I’m now thinking they are ready, I have been low stress training for a few weeks, so that has kept things where I want em, going to flip things tonight, and I already have another tent on the way haha.

Space limitations is usually the deciding factor for most on when they flip. Keeping in mind, you need some extra head space for the initial stretch almost all strains exhibit when flipped.
