I am in southern ontario, by Toronto.

I will plant my seeds directly into the ground. Dont have the luxury of nursing them at home first.

When should I do so?

thanks

its gonna be in your best interest to at least germ the seeds before you put them in the ground, just use a wet paper towel and a dark warm area. As soon as those sprout you should be good to put them in, the high today was 85 I know that atypical but with weather like this your gonna be fine.

Usally you should wait till after may 24 that way theres no chance of frost and other *cover plants* have time to provide that cover

thats also a valid point I was speaking from the prescriptive of somebody with well established clones, if starting from seed of seedling your gonna wanna wait about 2 weeks.

im at 45 degrees lat, and which is very similar to southern Ontario, I never bother putting my plants outside before June 1st, I find that before this the weather is too cold and the elements to harsh to make it worthwhile transplanting. I start them under a 400watt MH so they have a climate on par with a hot summer day. Last frost in my area comes May 10th. However; this doesn't mean your plants are going to like it out there yet.

FYI: Farmers Almanac is an extremely reliable resource. It tells you the hours of light per day you get what the weather is going to be like, and trends for the year like really wet or very dry. give you moon cycles to plant by.

Its a cheap yet valuable little booklet that will give advice and information even the Guru will find useful.

Try using Google. If Canada’s national weather service is like that in the U.S. it will give dates for last freezes in areas and also the probability of late freezes after certain dates.

Google is very handy.

I've grown in northern Ontario and planting time is June 1st. If you're close to Lake Ontario you should be good around Mothers Day. If not I would wait until Victoria Day.

Good luck.
