When is the best time to top a plant

Best to wait till 5-6 nodes.
Thank you, buddy. I have grown forever but i quit topping plants several years ago to see what all of these individual strains of plant-seeds I bought were naturally inclined to grow. I was thinking it was three or four nodes. i have the original ganja growing book too, but I like to get on the site some anyway.

I agree with 5 or 6 nodes being a good time to top/FIM. I like to do that myself and then allow the resulting branches to get nice and long, then supercrop them out horizontally in all directions under a trellis.

When I first started growing, I let everything just do their thing as most autos were small in stature but as the caught on, taller, lanky-er phenos emerged....seems now, top/fim is required to control height. I top/fim above the 3rd solid node....sometimes higher according to strain.

I typically do it after the 4th set of true leaves has formed. I just pinch/fim/top with my fingers. No scissors needed.

The best time to top really depends on your vertical space. Like other suggested 5-6th node is probably even better if vertical space is not a problem.

I popped several kumaoni seedlings a few weeks ago and experimented with topping. I was really aggressive with one of them. Instead of waiting for additional nodes, I topped it as soon as it hit node three. That plant is now 1/10th of what the others are.

Advice to wait should definitely be heeded.
