When to check sex?

so i have 12 plants started right now, there all reg non feminized purple kush planted in 1 gallon pots. They are 3-4 weeks old and i plan on vegging them for another 3 or 4 weeks. just wondering when i should cut the lights back to check sex?? i will be transplanting into 5 gallon pots before flowering but i dont have enough room in my grow tent for 12 5 gallon pots.

im hoping half of them will be female and then i will choose the best 4 to continue on into flower, if less then 4 are female i will veg them longer cut clones and just go from there.

On "normal" light schedules plants normally show sex between 4-6 weeks.

You can check em whenever. Im guessing your going to reveg?

take a clone and put it under 12/12. it doesn't have to root, it'll start to flower in a week or two.

never seen that before, i've vegged regular seeds for 3 months before putting them outside and havent had them show sex while under 20/4

yup, im just wondering about timing for stressing the plant. i dont think it will make a difference to put them through the stress of going in and out of flower at the same time as transplanting them, but i figured might as well see if anyone thinks otherwise.

i though about it this, but the plants are only three weeks from seed so i would need to veg awhile longer before i could cut a clone from each plant.

20/4 are normal light schedules? I'm on the equator.... Yes they show after 4 weeks on the nose nearly, every round, every month.....

these plants are indoors under artificial light so the physical location of them is irrelevant. im not sure what other people use for veg but i consider 20/4 a normal light schedule for veg, never had a plant show sex with 20 hours of light everyday.

You have to drop the lights down. 20/4 is not a NORMAL light schedule, not to sex under....cut clones and put them under 12/12, they'll show in less than a week, yes cut clones unrooted

Or you could just wait and flower them normally and cull the males at that point and clone just the females. Is room size an issue that you need to know before the switch to 12?

plants are in veg right now so 20/4, my question wasnt how to sex but when the best time would be to do it.

im hoping to transplant them into bigger pots and give them some time to grow more roots before i put them into full flower. and ya my room isnt big enough for 12 plants in 5 gallon buckets.
pretty much just wondering if i should check sex now, give them a week to recover after going back to veg then transplant. or should i veg a few more weeks sex them and transplant as soon as i see sex and keep them in flower without giving the roots a chance to fill the new pot before flowering

Got ya, and it's been a few years since growing regs but I always cloned and sexed the clones or just let them veg and culled the ones that came from the boys. But yes I let the regs get big enough to take two clones each. It was the lack of room and time that has limited my grows now to femmed plants for better or worse lol.
