When to move seedlings close to light CFL

I have 2 seedlings 1 week old. They are approx 2.5in tall now. How close should i have them to the 75W I am running atm? I have had them at 2 inches away from light for a couple days. I know Garden Knowm recommends 1 inch away for CFLs, but at what age do you start that close?

I had them in some cheap "organic" soil from box store. I just top-dressed those 2-cup pots with about 1.5 inches of Roots Organic mixed with 20% EWC. And then I gave them their first good watering, to hopefully get some organic/tea nutrients going to the roots now.

Any comments/advice appreciated :bigjoint:

You get so many different opinions/advice on here. One thread I saw recommended 5 to 7 inches for the first week or so. I did that for a couple of days, then moved much closer. Figure it was better than burning them up. I keep adding light when they get bigger anyway. Thanks for your input.

a CFL will not burn anything unless it's actually touching ,
ppl say weak new seedlings blah blah,
tell that to the sun outside ??

I would have them 1 inch by 2 weeks but you have to watch the plants and see if they brown or wilt. Overheating can occur but that is more the reflectors I use trapping heat.

My two seedlings are 3 and 4 days old and theyre both under 80w fluro around 1 inch from tops, they seem to like it and with saran wrap on the cup tops (some ventilation) it stays warm in there mini dome. Can't personally see burning a plant unless you wrapped it around a bulb, they get warm at best.

Use the back of you hand as a instrument to measure the heat.
If it's to hot for you. It's to hot for your plant. With CFL's it's about 2 to 3 inches.
