well, i usually trim periodically throughout the grow, i usually trim off all the lower growth before i stick them into flowering, Im also a great advocate of trimming dodgey looking leaves, you can cut a leaf in half and the remaining half a leaf will function just fine (& perk up a hell of a lot if what you trimmed off was unhealthy or yellowing etc). They say not to trim during the last few weeks of flowering, so heading that advice i usually take off the bigger (and usually by this point a little yellow) fan leaves to give more light exposure to the buds in week 5/6 of flowering. Dont know how much trimming really does for you but i certainly dont think it harms the plants.

Yep, you trim when you harvest, top or lst when the plants are younger and thats all the cutting you do except clones

im pretty surprised by these responses, ive seen people trim absolutely all the fan leaves from their plants as soon as decent sized buds start forming with the belief that the more light gets to the bud, the bigger they will grow. They dont seem to have vastly different yields to anyone else (well, they believe theyre slightly higher)

why would you do that? the leaves make the energy to build bud, why would you cut them off? less leaves=less bud.

Im certainly not advocating doing any serious chopping but a little pruning as you go is no bad thing... football first you have a point but thats not entirely how it works, plants have defense/recovery mechanisms - take topping, the plant puts more energy into bud production under certain circumstances - and occassionally being damaged by say a forraging animal isnt completely unnatural. Plants under threat put more energy into reproduction (buds for a female) as they - like anything else exist primarily to keep the species going.

Trimming leaves off is not going to get you more bud....Your cutting the plants engines, topping also slows growth, the tradeoff with that is that you are shaping the plant so you will have more main stems...
