I go back pretty far, being almost 70 years old, and still tokin (and recently growing) pot.. Does anyone out there remember the 50's, 60's, 70's, when you had your first experience smoking pot. Do you remember the strain you had. Most pot was bought off the street in those days. In the 50's we had some from mexico (Acupulco Gold), and another strain that was pretty good. We did'nt know what it was. Also ther was a low grade that was probably male because it took 1/4 oz. to get a buzz (being ripped off). At that time it cost $15- $20 bucks for a lid (1 oz). Then in the 6o's we found Jamaican, that was a little better than the Mexican, Except for the Gold. It was about $30 a lid. After that there was Columbian( kick ass), at $35. Later in the 70's, came Thai and Sensi Red (powerhouse grass) for $40- $50. Now at my age I enjoy leisure smoking, maybe 2 J's a day, aand I get a good buzz. I don't like getting wasted on it, just casual hit now and then, along with a beer or three and a glass or 3 of wine. I'm a happy camper. I think I'm happy enough just growing it. My buying on the streets is over. So if there is someone here who wants to tell thier experiences, join in.:joint:bongsmilie

If I remember corrrectely Panama Red and Hawiian was around in the 70's. That's when the cost started going up. The first time I tried pot was in the late 50's (58 0r 59). A friend of mine worked for International Harvestor back then, and got some from someone he worked with. He sold it in smaller bags (nickle, dime, 15 cent). The 15 cent bag was about 1/4 lid (4 oz.). It was all clean grass, no seeds, no stems, just pure bud. I don't know what strain it was, but it was sweet tasting, strong smelling and had a strong body and head high. we'd split a "J" and be high for hours. the grass we got on the street was loaded with seed & stems. Most of it was from Mexico at that time. It was good pot. :eyesmoke:

Hey vic... yep... 68-69 was about the start of "Red" if any.. and that very fluorescent lime green Hawiian... you didn't make it through a joint by yourself very easy..........
Thats true (stems).. I guess for some when we talk of Mexican they think the crap brick weed thats around now... ya it was bricked and had lumber
(please send patio plans) and seeds, but was GOOD smoke... way better than the M39/friezeland commercial now days....

I started late compared to most of my friends but the family babysitter got me high the first time after a concert in '70. Almost all of the MJ then was mexican or jamaican (lots of wood and seeds) but there was starting to be some Hawiian and there was also some Thai starting to filter in after the war. It wasn't until probably the late 70's or early 80's sometime when we started to see the first really good domestic sensi and the price went from around 60$ and oz for the commercial grades to around 120$ for the sensi. After that it wasn't until after the "Great Dry Spell" of '85 when everyone was either totally dry or smoking "Saltwater Pot" that the prices and availability changed again. Prices doubled bringing the price for imports to around 120$oz but the influx of massive amounts of domestic sensi at around 240$ practically ended the days of "Ground Brown"! I quit smoking around '90 but started again two years ago for health reasons and my my my what a new world it is!

You make me feel so young, 37 here. Tell us more stories. I started smoking in the early 80s at a young age and wish I could've been there in the 60s and 70s.
