I know this may sound stupid. I have grown smoke before but always guessed when its ready. I have a scope and wanna check it the right way this time. I know that I should be looking for cloudy or milky trichomes. So when I look at trichomes, do I look at the bud its self or look at the sugar leaves coming from the bud? any help would be great.

Easiest way is to snip a sugar leaf and scope it on white paper.
Tough to get a steady look otherwise.

Nah, Turn off your grow light and get a normal lamp on it, get your microscope and examine the buds, that's what I do, and that works fine for me :)..

Yes, sugar leaf trichomes will mature faster. Also, they will have a lot of those "hair" looking trichs that don't tell you much of anything. The best thing to look at IMO are the calyxes at the bottom of the bud, middle, and top on the top cola(s).
