Hi guys, i'm in the middle of a project for building a custom LED grow lamp and I want to know if you guys can recomend me a good place to buy custom heatsinks.

I've searched the web an all the electronics sites for one that suits my needs, but the best thing I've found so far is this one:

http://www.newark.com/h-s-marston/938sp-02000-a-200/heat-sink-extrusion-0-53-c-w/dp/08WX9554?in_merch=Popular Heat Sinks

The thing is that I will need to buy atleast 4 of them but this is obviusly not optimal...

I plan to ilumminate an area of 470mm2.

I hope you guys can recomend me a better thing to buy.

P.S.: I'm Chilean, so sites with international shipping is needed.

P.S.: Sorry for my bad english.

Yes a LED Grow, I've been using a China UFO LED of 90W with great results so... now I want to build my own with good quality leds and I'm pretty sure I will get better results.

Hi Kiken,
Your english is better than many english speakers practice!
These guys http://www.heatsinkusa.com/ sell just about any type of heat sink you could want and they ship internationally.
BTW, You are on the right track with DIY. Not only is it fun and exciting to build your own but if anything breaks you will have the knowledge to diagnose and repair it! My entire grow op from seed/cutting to harvest is lit with home made LED panels. I have found that I can design a better light for my needs than anyone else can. Home made LED panels are not wimpy! I enjoy the abundant fruit from my lights daily!
Peace, MM

Yeah, that's a good page!

The prices are very good, if someone else doesn't come out with a better one, I think I will buy a heatsink from them.

Thanks!

Heatsinkusa is a good place. I've also used a different style of heat sink which works well. Go to stevesleds.com and look at the square aluminum tubing and pressurized fan that he offers. Theses work and cool well if you want a more strip style of light. It has worked well for me anyway; I've made two and have the supplies now for the third.

As far as the idiot above, who comes into the LED lighting forum to knock LEDs, he obviously has little idea of what he is talking about. I've grown some great buds with LED lighting and if you were the least bit happy with a 90W UFO, you are gonna' be ecstatic if you buy Cree and/or Philips LEDs.

Since you are making your own, make sure that you cover your area well....just a few inches smaller than the grow space.

See if you can source aluminum U-channel from anywhere in your country.. one of the cheapest routes and works well cooled actively.
HeatsinkUSA is more convenient though, less assembly required.

I just want to remind you guys you can use cpu heatsinks for a cheap work around! They also include fans if you are doing above 10W.
