which is less heat, 2-150 watt hps, 1 400 watt CMH ?

which is cooler 2-150 watt hps, 1 400 watt CMH? I wold guess the 2 150 hps but if so by how much? I can do one of the two options, if its not hugely hotter(like 400 watt CMH puts out twice as much heat) I can do the CMH, which I would rather, but if the 2 150 hps are way cooler in the cab thne I can do that

That is going to depend on if you are going to air cool the 400 watter. An air cooled 400 will be cooler than the 2 (150 watters) as they are not usually air cooled.

There shouldn't be a large difference. It is a gamble depending on the size of the cabinet and proper air circulation/extraction.

People are going to want to know the dimensions of the cabinet in order to make an educated suggestion.

well all I really wanted to know was an educated guess as to which puts off more heat and by how much. not worried about which one I could cool easier or anything but I appreciate your replies, thank you

You've got a little dillemma. The two 150s will generate less heat; however hps/mh tend to "throw heat" making it harder to get your light down to the canopy. CMH will generate more heat but does not "throw heat" like an hps. The heat rises rather than beat down, something you should consider.

tried to reply 3 times last night and all 3 replies errored out, guess rollitup was undegoing changes, a lot of pages are 404ing out this morning. Have you seen any measurements about cmh producing less heat?

tell me about it! anyway got a deal on a 400 watt hps, testting the heat now, still plan to get a cmh in a couple of weeks though
