I'm not saying it was staged. I just don't trust so-called video evidence these days. It's so easily faked.
Do your black friends actually know the History behind it and the designers intention for what the flag represents?
As bad as it was for them to do that, you're not going to win this fight in this way. People doing that are doing it for the reaction, and every time someone acknowledges their actions it is a justification of their purpose. The reason they are doing it is because they are not allowed to lynch people anymore. If their jackassery is ignored, they will go back to their shifty lives grumbling about how they can't feel superior anymore.
I agree completely. It just fucks me up that they chose to do it at a child's birthday party. That one is kinda hard to ignore. I've been called the N-word countless times, and I'm pretty good at letting that shit roll off. One time my daughter was called that word (she was 8 at the time) by one of her friends fathers. The only thing that saved him was the fact that my wife called the police in fear of how I'd react, and the police arrived at his house before I did (I was at work at the time). Leave the kids out of it.
A complete lack of reaction is something most people can not tolerate and it can be contagious. Its how I defuse my wife when she gets feisty. I tell her I'm just listening, but what Im really doing is watching the air go out.
