White Widows! Need Some Advice!!!

Hey i need advice. i received two small white widow plants when they were about 6" in height. i have never grown any marijuana before and decided to try it out for fun. Can you take a look at the picture to see if i need to improve anything or make changes? the plants are now about 2 1/2 feet each. I'm just a little scared because i see other peoples plants on this site and the plants are so full and bushlike. These two are so skinny. Is it just the strain or is my lighting not strong enough?

currently i have them on a 12/12 cycle with miracle grow potting soil i got from home depot and regular flourescent lights. i only water them when the soil gets dry and crumbly to avoid over watering them. i havent started giving them any nutrients or anything.

It will take them a while before they can flower. Try keeping them in total darkness for 48 hrs and then continue the 12/12. 18/6 is what they SHOULD be getting during vegetative state...they may never flower.

Thanks for the reply, i know you cant tell from the picture i originally posted but both plants have already started flowering. i originally started the lighting cycle at 18/6 thats why they grew so tall. i didnt know when to switch it to 12/12 until a friend of mine told me to do it. i switched the lighting about 2 weeks ago and now i counted over 26 little bud (flowers) on one plants already. so overall does everything look ok? do i need nutrrients? do i need to do anything else?

Nutes that are high is phosphourous are good for flowering but not too much.

also they will still double in size.

Need more lights as well. You wont do much with that light. Get a couple y splitters and try to get 4 bulbs on each plant a couple inches from tops. You wouls be better off with some sort of hps light but if cash is an issue get as many cfls as possible.

yeah thats what I was thinking...MORE LIGHT! But also nutrients. If and when you get the nutes dont give full dose especialy because you are using miracle grow soil.

good luck!

make a trip to lowes or home depot, get the 42 watt CFLs (they are the big ones) and buy some light sockets, they sell them where they have the extension cords at lowes, they have the cords already attached, buy some y splitters so you can put 2 light bulbs onto 1 socket, and you can make your own little reflectors out coke cans.........more lights you can afford the bigger the buds at the end

I would chop that sucker in half and put it back in veg..... you're wasting your time with that light setup.... BUT.... if you're having fun and are happy with a small yield.... let it ride..... good luck

Ok, the first thing ur doing wrong is ur lights, im pretty sure just by looking at the spectrum of the bulb due to the color of the light and its intensity, if u were using the right cfl it would come off almost blue/white, and it looks yellow-ish, so im guessing you need to go online and order a compact flourescent bulb that is a 6000-6500k and about 1600 lumens or so, get a couple of them and put one on each side as well, by doing that you will be able to get the plant to grow outwards towards the light. they almost look like they had the lights too far above the tops if it doesnt burn your hand from the distance of the bulb to the plant then ur good so try getting it a little closer. Im no expert just trying to spread some of the knowlege ive learned as a noob. And you absolutely gotta do a 18/6 if you wanna maximize potential, i would honestly pick up a nice light if i was you because those plants look like you could have some seriously good return product and you're doing really good for someone that doesnt know much about the process, many people say dont use miracle grow soil for tons of reasons, you really should get your hands on some nutes as well, ive heard SO many good things about gh. personally i use floranova and bloom and have heard great reviews about those perticular products. I really hope your grow turns out great man because for someone just messing around i am impressed, if u have any other simple questions shoot and i can probably help, i know about soil growing but im getting into hydroponics and boy is that a lot harder lol, im having some troubles to say the least. also, if u can, pick up a soil ph meter. DONT FORGET THOSE NUTES!!!! you cant have good growth without nutes im honestly surprised they look like that without them
