Who loves their concentrates ?

My preference is flower for smoking or vaping, just love the smell, taste. But for edibles and the odd strong dab I convert everything into dry sift/kief first. The reason is I don't like any form of solvents involved and the process is super simple. Once I have the sift I can smoke it, vape it, convert it to the Rosin hits (just heat, no solvents), edibles, oils (topical). Love my sift...

How did you get your sift? dry ice in bubble bags or screens? Im on the hunt for extracts at home, small scale.

Screens are alright but you get the odd piece of greenery in there.

Bubble bags are what's up. I love good clean bubble hash. Never tried using dry ice in the process.

I like being able to shape it while it's still moist.

what he has there looks like dry sift, bags produce bubble hash unless you use dry ice

I bought 5x 16" x 16" stainless steel 100u screens off e-Bay (initially I tried a few different screen sizes, landed at 100u for overall balance between quality and yield), link below, they're like $20 delivered. I found some 1x2's sitting around in the garage and made a frame for the screens. Just use fresh/frozen bud or popcorn and run it through the screens, usually run it through a grinder but rough, freeze for at least 24h, then sift it through the screen with a little pressure going back & forth across the screen. You can run a QP and get 8-15g of sift in less than an hour. Yield depends on strain, I average about 10% but my keepers are typically high in THC and frosty, I've run the odd dud pheno that wasn't worth smoking and gotten as low as 4%, with my sativa-dom pheno of Blue Ripper I've gotten as high as 12%. If you're getting (a lot of) plant material at 100u it's because the starting material was not fresh, anything too old/dry tends to generate more green material. You can go a finer screen to reduce that but then your yield is reduced.

Depends what you want it for, I smoke/vape the odd bit but 90%+ is used in oils/edibles and 100u is a good balance for both uses.

Edit: Link to some screens on e-bay

Think I'm going to go the same route, I've been watching your journal and the JTR and Blue Ripper looked killer. Came across it when i was looking up HSO Bluedream, take a look at the list of strains I'm dealing with, most won't make 1st round. Doing some serious pheno hunting...trying to find a happy quality/yield strain

Nice, subbed up to see what you find. Key is finding the right pheno and that usually means running a pack but sometimes you get lucky, JTR only took about 6 seeds to find a good one. That HSO Blue Dream is not bad, not as strong as JTR/Blue Ripper but not bad if you find a good pheno, typically get around 8-10% return with that one and it's my best producer.

whats the tool they use to collect it all? so simple i just can't understand how it works
Anything really works to collect it. I just use my dabber. Sometimes it can be shattery like glass, sometimes it's a bit more like taffy, pull and snap. Depending on the consistency the collection techniques can vary. But essentially you just scrape it up. Once you get a little ball going, you just use that to collect the rest.

Once you've got it all collected into one glob, I just put it between a clean square of parchment and use the hair straightener to turn the global into a slab. Usually the straightener isn't even turned on for the last part. I unplug it and allow it to cool down when I'm collecting. By the time I'm pressing out my final slab the straightener is warm enough I can grab the heating plates and hold. You really don't want too much heat.

Whats your process? squeezing flower, bubble, dry sift? if its a bubble/sift what micron?

I just squish bubble hash. Most of the time I like to make full spectrum rosin. So I will take everything from the 45 right up to the 160 load it into a tea bag and press it out.
I'm still using the wife's hair straightener, but I'm a big dude (6'3" 290lb), and I'm squeezing pretty hard, plus leaning on it on the counter.

Any micron of bubble can be pressed, I like to keep some of the 90 and 73 bubble around. I pretty much rosin out everything else.

No problem. Also a tip, if your squishing bubble, start with lower pressure. It doesn't take much to get the resin to start milking out. Don't just hammer down full pressure from the get go.
i'm going to try a bud this weekend and see what happens. i keep putting it off
i'm also going to "decarb" some bud and make butter for some edibles
