thx but did you mean that every time i water the perlite and peatmoss release the MG nutes? I was also told to use the MG with BLOOM BOOSTER for flowering. Any thoughts, I use no other nutes at all. also on budget
If I am not mistaken, The perlite has a 1-0-0 NPK and I think the Peat is the same. The N2 is adhered to the medium through some process and is designed to be slowly released as you water them. You want to take this into account when you start to feed them or you could burn em up. I myself do not like MG potting mix because of this. I like to be able to control what I am feeding them and what little bit is in the perlite is usualy used up by the time I start feeding.

As for the MG bloom! Don't do it. It is to high in P and will only give you problems down the road. Try and find the Jacks Classic Brand. They make a Dynamic Duo, Veg and Bloom food for about 10.00 if you can find it local. If not its about 20.00 with shipping at there web site. You can also get the Alaska Fish Emilsion from Home Cheapo for about 6.00 a qt. And I think they have a bloom but it does not have any N2 in it so you would need to maybe mix the two together in equal amounts when you feed. Start off slow feeding them and you can increase slowly.

Hope it helped

Peace

hey could i grow a plant in my shed with just seeds some good soil an no grow light?
Now Im no pro but I would say you gonna need lot more than that brudda. you got to have a good light that can give your young some sun. look for bulbs with good amount of lumens, most bulbs will say daylight on em. with flourecents, sylvania makes a good sun stick. I run a 400w MH so i donnot know much bout other bulbs other than you need em. hope I helped some.

Nice Job! Well Done Indeed, hope i can be that good some day. OK I have a sort of technical question. Planning on upgrading from cfl to HID lighting next grow. I have an idea and Im hoping it will work, but I need to know: Could a 400 watt hps ballast run say, 4 - 100watt ceramic metal halide lamps, provided everything was compatable and wired properly? or does a ballast only run in a set configuration with the type of bulb it is intended. I found PAR38 CMH Bulbs (100w) and was thinking using 4 - 100 watters would be better to spread the light out in my grow space, maybe one per plant. Let me know your thoughts and keep up the good work!

I can actually answer this with pride as a noob. I bought my Metal Halide for 50 bux. It had a Mercury Vapor bulb in it and I didnt like that. So I wondered if my ballast was MH or MV. Tore it apart and found the M59 model number. Whew I said. H33 meant it was a MV ballast which would have been useless. But during my wondering stage I searched hundreds of forums checking compatability. I can say that splitting is not a good idea being that those ballasts are pulse started. you can run a MH bulb in the HPS lamp and all so long as it is equel or lesser wattage but only one would be safe.

If I am not mistaken, Any CMH bulb under 150w takes their own dedicated ballast. 250w and 400w use the 400w HPS magnetic ballast.

Here's my post on CMH and Ballasts

OK, well here's my post on
A bored electrician to answer your questions

I got another one for ya.
I got a Philips MasterColor CMH bulb
MHC150/U/M/4K/ALTO
to change for my HPS bulb. I thought they use a non-digital HPS ballast. I found out that that wattage (the MHC, not CDM like my CDM250S50/HOR/4K/ALTO) needs a Metal Halide ballast. Can I convert my HPS to a MH for this? Maybe a pulse start issue I didn't get? Maybe a special cap/ignitor to make it pulse start?
On a side note the S50 in the CDM250S50/HOR/4K/ALTO bulb I got coming and the ANSI S50 of the ballast I asked about (and is coming) is what tells me it's the right one correct? Once again thanks in advance

So I called Lighting Supply Co about my http://www.lightingsupply.com/products/category_products.aspx?category=62ecd4c9026845b6988005c0809e0a10 bulb. They said I can't convert my HPS to run it. I asked if I can send it back & she said they would credit my $26 back and no need to send it back. I told them I would definitely be using them again. So now I have a free CMH bulb, and I can make another remote timer/ballast for a future project. Or make the combo then switch. I think it'd be about $100 for a pimped matching one. The Hippie Gardener is quite a ways from that "GREEN" light for another project. hehe
On the side note that is definitely the right 250W combo.

i googled the ansi on the MC lamp and it tells me its a non retrofit pulse start lamp. the retrofit lamp you already have, will run in a hps ballast... but thats not the case with the new lamp. it needs a special ignitor.

here is the spec sheet for a generic CMH ANSI M142/M102 ballast, on it are the specs for the ignitor and starter combo  throw them on that 150w HPS ballast core and you now have a CMH ballast for cheap! tho the price for the same ballast is 45$ plus S&H. off the top of my head i have no idea what the ignitor/cap combo would cost. when ordering a cap, what you need to know is the microfarad rating, which looks like this: 17 Mfd ± 3% that is a 17 microfarad capacitor, with a correction factor of plus/minus 3%. you dont need to worry about the correction factor, just the microfarad rating.
when ordering an ignitor, there are 2 things you need to know, first, the part number... thats the important one, looks like this: 356-AS-71-HC its kinda like a VIN, as each digit means something or the other, lol. the other thing is the ballast to lamp distance. thats important in that if you exceed the ballast to lamp distance of the ignitor, the lamp will slow start or not start at all. most ignitors ballast to lamp distance is 5 feet, though they make some pretty big ones for remote ballasts. i have personally seen remote ballasts 300' from the lamp.

If I am not mistaken, Any CMH bulb under 150w takes their own dedicated ballast. 250w and 400w use the 400w HPS magnetic ballast.

the 400W and 250W use a mag. coil HPS Ballast, and under 250W use a Pulse Start MH. It's all about the Ansi code on the ballast to know.:blsmoke:
Hope this helps.

I'm no where near even a trained electrician. but a 100W CMH needs a Pulse Start MH not HPS. I answered it above.:eyesmoke:

Now I'm sure I messed this little lady up but I need to hear it from others before I kill it.

When it had it's first set of real leaves I had it under a 400w hps lamp. I put small drops of water in the leaves and when I came home from work she was all browned except 1 feeder leaf (the round one not sure what it's called). Anyway I allowed it to remain like this except I switched back to a 300w equivalent cfl. The browned leaves died and I removed them. Now the feeder is getting larger and the plant is taller and the roots are growing. I'm on my phone as I post this so I'm trying to upload a pic. If not I hope the description works. Thank you everyone for your help.

i built a grow room 4Lx6Hx2W,theres two compartments(top & bottom). bottom is 4Lx3.5Hx2W and top is 2.5Lx2.5Hx2W.the rest of the 1.5LX2.5HX2W is for my 4" exhaust fan with carbon filter.my carbon filter is in a enclosed light and airtight. i want to drill a hole on the bottom of the concealed space for ventilation for the bottom(flowering) and a hole on the top side of the concealed space for ventilation for the top(vegetative).what size hole should i drill because i hear you want to build some sort of vacuum? by the way on the opposite side of the compartments i drilled seven 1-inch hole that make up a 3 1/2 in hole, top and bottom, below the potted plants for air intake from outside of the growroom.my lights are (TOP) 2 LED panels all blue.there are 225 led bulbs on each panel and i have no idea what the actual wattage is.(BOTTOM) 3 LED panels, one all red, and two striped red and blue and also each panel has 225 led bulbs on it. would you also know by chance the total wattage i have? and i have these lights right next to eachother. Thanks for any help.
