listening to advice on here i have been led to believe 20/4 is probably the best for autos. as its possible to grow under 24hr constant light nobody seems to, why is it a bad idea???

simple answer is you can grow under 24/0 but plants have things they do in the dark too and if its never dark they don't do them, basically it just makes for a healthier plant ..that's why most people do 20/4 or 18/6..

Some people believe that plants need dark time "rest" to engage in metabolic processes that enhance cannabinoid production.

Now, I don't know if this has actually ever been proven, but its plausible, and that's why a lot of people run 20-4 instead of always on.

I run mine 23.5 on .5 off. Have found they finish quicker this way. Pulling on avg well over 1.5 oz per plant in 5 gal air pots under an overkill amount of leds. If you're growing with HID I would never rec having your lights on 24 hours a day that IMO is a fire hazard. When I ran HID I kept mine on 20-4.

I've got my HID on 24/0 at the moment because I'm starting more autos and it drops to about 60* with the light off inside the tent with my ventilation system. I want to give them the most light possible for a week or two and the 80* temps help sprouting. My currently flowering plants don't seem to mind the switch from 20/4 to 24/0 and might have fattened up a bit. I've had my plants under a HPS about 10'' from the tube at 20/4 for weeks with no light bleaching or ill-effects.

fair enough, I've just had ballasts (cheap e-ballasts) blow up doing that. My buddy had a 400w GYO digital MH/HPS and it was done after less than 6 months on the 24-0 cycle.

I'm almost 100% sure that is a GYO. LED wholesalers is a reseller for Chinese grow gear. I'd be careful if my buddy had not caught it shortly after it shorted out it could have easily caused a really bad fire. It was broiling hot to the touch.

edit - I checked their site it most def is a GYO be careful man.

It runs pretty hot. I've got it on a grated shelf a few feet off the ground for safety. I'm certainly not running it 24/0 indefinitely. I believe it has a one year warranty.

I've personally tried once and had one set of autos on 24 and another on 18/6. Now I don't know how accurate my results were, as there could have been many many factors that played out but I tried to grow them all the same using the same nutes and everything. My plants on 24hr were, i don't know how to put it... just not as healthy, lush and green. They seemed to have a bit more problems but like i said this could be attributed to any other number of factors even differences in pheno types of a strain. But like dude said above plants do things at night they don't in the day or atleast I would believe so.

I kinda look at like would you be stronger and better if you didn't sleep and worked 24hrs or would you feel better with a few hours of sleep? :)
when growing inside I try and grow to mimic mother nature since that is were the plant originaly came from. but other than that one experiment I don't have any other facts but from my experience I would give them some dark.
