Why is the US South such a backwards shithole?

I had an idea it was. I schooled a few members here about it before I even moved down here but the reality is it's worse than I thought.

Since moving down here I have seen with my own two eyes the effects of inbreeding, daily fatal car crashes, white people putting knives to their black employees necks and church taught homophobia and xenophobia.

And the people here are proud of it. I'm dumbfounded. People here are ok with pain pills all day but a little weed and your going to hell. How convenient that church policy lines up so neatly with government policy. Do you know how many people I've met with severe amputations from
Fo' wheeler accidents? Do you know how many people die from stupid shit like that? Nobody uses a turn signal here and no one wonders why so many accidents. Such little regard for anyone else's life but abortion is illegal. No new taxes to build schools but everyone has 3 cars and a boat but they're too stupid to fund their kids education. Wtf?

I've had a feeling that is what is like but are there anybody or anything that makes up for the "stupidity"? Surely there are redeeming qualities? I was vacationing in FL once but didn't encounter anything like that. Is it more the inland states like AL or GA?

A gas station stop won't get you the full experience. You have to live down here. They also move homeless people out of town and the mexican cartels are firmly rooted down here probably with the help of some corrupt local businessmen/government officals/police (one and the same down here)

Its not that bad of a shit hole. You have to watch whose toes you step on down there because you don't know who is tied in with who, the disappearing act happenings a good bit down there, almost all the cops are bought. I do miss living there but the laws are dumb as fuck so I don't miss that.

Yup so much game down here it makes me swallow hard. Cops politicians it's so blatant but you can't change anything without a lot of money organization and friends. I see the racial tension and understand the animosity. There is still a big plantation big daddy mentality here. If you want to get ahead you need to leave the state or have those old timey connections.

You meet all kinds of people trying to score bud down here. I've met gangbangers, military, mixed race families, trailer park boys. Weed huh. The richer kids are into coke and I don't mess with that. I hate pills and opiates so don't mess with those people.

I've met a lot of good honest hardworking people some of them really chill and not outwardly racist or homophobic. I see people have family that are closeted gay (a lot of roommate best friend situations) and they're ok with it but they can't reconcile that with their religious beliefs and it holds them back. Its mind blowing.

And some people are downright mean sons of birches. I was working at the mall on Sunday when I saw a well dressed black family coming from church walking down the sidewalk. Along comes a fucking lifted 4x4 monster truck with a confederate flag, pulls along side them and follows them while revving their engine super loud. This happens until they walk into the mall entrance maybe for 10 seconds total. In usually stoned so I just stand there in stunned disbelief. Really? That just happened in a larger city with a military base.

Since you are an outsider living in a confederate State, you are able to see these things. The people that have lived there all along are unable to do that. They don't realize that their society is racist. They think that being a bigot is normal. That's why everyone else considers them to be rednecks, but they will argue that.

I live down here. And there are ignorant racist people. I can't deny that. But you cant deny that they are everywhere. It isn't just the South.

I have seen overt acts of racism. Though not many. I have also observed the reaction of witnesses to those acts. There was a parking lot incident a couple years ago where a white man started calling a black family a bunch of niggers and being threatening. I noticed some white people close by go to defend them.

I dont believe for one second that the OP has witnessed a white employer holding a knife to the throat of black employees. Not in the last 40 years.

Government schools are funded coercively and pretty much compulsory. Therefore your claim that it is an education is erroneous. It would be more accurate to call it an indoctrination, due to the component of force being in the mix.

However, I agree that you may be dumbfounded.

Indeed. What is normal, is often seen as that which is routinely practiced. Simply because a thing occurs on a repeating basis (normal) does not confer good qualities to it if they don't exist to begin with.

Some people go so far as claiming that since coercion based governments are the norm, they must be better than other forms of human organization, based solely on the basis of their proliferating. They of course ignore that the proliferation isn't a natural growth springing from logic or morality, but is due to the coercion itself which sustains it.
