~will htg supply duct booster fans keep my closet cool????!!~

Ok..so I have a 400 w hps in a normal size, slide door closet...temps in there are quite high, and I would like a way to keep things cool by exhausting the hot air near the bulb itself...no fancy air cooled reflectors..just a duct booster fan,and some ducting sucking the hot air from near the bulb....my only question is if this htg supply duct booster fan will work? Its obvoisly very cheap, and isnt nearly as powerful as the canfans,vortex,etc..but will it work in my small closet setup?I know that most people use the high end fans for big duct runs and cooling multiple lights,etc.....heres the link..please comment on if i should buy it or not?......before i waste my money and it doesnt keep shit cool..thnkz

Heres my setup in my smallish closet...

that page is pretty misleading.its only a 160cfm 250 with booster fan.what are your temps, where will you diverting the heat to? i ordered one of these a couple months ago.temp dropped 10-20 degrees with the fan diverted directly out a sealed window.its kind of a hit&miss.i say order it,its cheap, play with some ideas just for fun then up it one notch with a little extra cash later on.of course if your temps are just outrageously high maybe shoot for something better.oh wait,no air cooled reflector......um...guess i should have read all the way through.maybe run by a home depot&check on the room to room fans i think theyre called.pretty nice if theres another closet on the other side of yours.then you can just run all your hot air into another room totally..

i live in a warm, tropical climate...so yea temps are higher than usual...theyr anywhere from 85-95+ with the hps on...so if it does cool it down to 5-10 degres..then ill be happy....ima just suck the hot air near the bulb..through a ducting, into the other side of the closet....maybe keep the doors open....also,where can i vent the heat to if i cant vent outside a window?or cut holes into things..can i vent into a sealed box or somthing like that?please help...im mad that i have 2 hps but cant use them due to the heat...

what i did in my old closet setup was i measured out the closet lengthxwidth cut out some ply wood painted bottom half white, bought a few l-brackets&made a shelf so it was in two parts.upper&lower.then just run the heat to the top half&used a fan like yours with the closet door cracked a little for cooler air flow.simple, yet effective.then you wont have to cut holes or destroy your home.only hole would be in the shelf for the ducting.

sounds effective for sure..however,can i get away with just venting the hot air into a sealed box or cooler, etc?
Or even just venting it to the toher part of the closet, which is seperated by ALOT of shirts...will this keep the plant canopy at a cool temp? And how much do those duct booster fans actaully blow? Also,I just toped my plant, how long until I see the 2 new shoots coming out? They are under a t-5 light..

im not sure venting into a box would be a good idea with a fan.the hot air would just be sitting in the box with nowhere to go after that.the motor would probably burn up rather quickly.kinda like sitting there with an air compressor pumping air into a tire.eventually the tube will pop but the air compressor is going to be running twice as hard stressing out all the components.or like knocking a box fan over.the air just doesnt have anywhere to go.if the box was cooled though and had some air ports for the air to escape after cooling it might work pretty good.the fan is helpful but not as helpful as the site leads it on to be.if set up right it might do alot of good for you.when topping it can take a matter of days but you have to take into consideration the heat issue among many other things.stress will slow things down a bit.any kind of stress for that matter.good luck with your grow man

air cooled hoods work very well, maybe you can seal up the one you have.[/QUOTi doubt it..believe me if i had the cash i would buy an aircooled hood with a nice vortex..unfortunatly all i have is enough for a duct booster..my question is if it will work to keep my 400 hps cool in my closet...with sjust sucking the hot air near the bulb...

it wouldnt hurt to try it out.then you can save up for bigger&better things later on.
ok...thnkz man..to all of ya...im not gonna lie, this grow isnt exactly how i pictured it..the plants are growing rather slow, with all typews of spots and shit on the leaves..now i have one major question..is tap water ok for the plants..its been asked countless times before, but its always gotten mixed reviews...

i live in a major city right by the coast(high salt prolly)..my tap water comes out at a high ph,around 8.5!im guessing the ppm must be high too...so is it safe to use anyways..or should i use store water? Also,is there any difference in the tap water, and the bathroom faucet water?i heard the kitchen water comes from a diffren sourse which is more chlorinated,etc.,.and the bathroom water is better for plants..please help with that too....

if anyone wants me to post pikz just ask....im agonna water them soon with just plain tap water.....

i got the same hood :), get a piece of tempered glass ... and find the best way for you to attach it to the hood

What else you got growing in that box? Some kinda flower?

There is no difference in the water throughout the house....unless you have a water softener - Does someone there buy big bags of yellow salt? Your water will be fine for you, but you have to get it to a proper PH - down around 6.5 for soil. Otherwise man it will be a struggle for you the whole way. Buy a tester - paper strips if money is tight.

Whatever the ppms of your water are your plants can handle it. It just keeps you from completely nuting them, but it's fine.

there is a thread on riu in which the person uses a hurricane lamp and take the glass tube mounts his bulb inside the glass and then a flex duct with a booster fan to suck the air through across the bulb and out i will try to find

to find it and post

i jsut use tap water and let it sit in i gallon jugs for a few days..and yes i have the general hydroponikz ph kit...which has test drops, and ph up and down....my whole question is all the cholinates, calcium, etc in the water..will it harm or lock out nutrients...ive had some nutrient deficincies or somthing happen to my plants..theyr much better now...

my main question is the cooling..i really use my hps already,to make my plants grow faster and more vigorously.this is obvoisly my first real grow, with nirvana ak48..all im after is a clone mother plant..then in the future ima move up to dwc sog grows...its just that coco coir is killin me man...

all this bullshit about it needing magnesium,etc...

i have some coco specific nutes...monkey juice BLOOM...should i use this for veg instead of the alaska fish fert 5-1-1 and maxicrop liquid seaweed??myabe its my nutes why theyr growing slow?

temps are perfect,under a t-5 light....please help guyz..

ive read those threads...i was thinkin on making a cooltube with a bake around tube, but then id need a 4 in fan..and im not sure a 4 in booster fan will be enough to keep temps low?....will a diy cooltube be better than sucking the hot air from the bulb??
