Will they recover? So worried

My seedlings were getting long and leggy. They were so weak they could barely shed the shell. So I transplanted them in deep styrofoam cups and buried em up to their little necks in soil. Got a regular bulb on them until the big light arrives. Do you think they'll recover? I'm so worried I can't sleep!

Well the big 600 watt light is coming in the mail so I picked up a generic light bulb at the store. I figured they wouldn't need much light in their first week of life, cause they were so small...i was wrong! i got em in ffof soil, watering every 2 or 3 days, wait till the container feels light then water until a little bit of runoff. i guess they're only six days old so maybe it'll get better once the big light gets here. i can't even be in the same room with them because i keep staring at them obsessively and worrying. thanks for the reply man

Over loving a plant Is the easier way for a new grower to kill their plant. Relax growing is supposed to be fun .

I think any problems you encounter can make you a better grower... I agree with all the recommendations that you don't need high power lighting on the seedlings. You do however need the proper light colors so a generic bulb may not provide the proper colors. The proper color CFL may be slightly harder to find but shouldn't cost significantly more...

As far as your seedlings "damping off"... burying them up to their neck will buy you more time. The seedlings are stretching for light because what you are supplying can't cut it. When I first started growing I nearly lost every seed I popped... I even buried one up to it's neck after it folded over. (Her sisters carry on four years later...)

Now, as soon as the seed starts germinating they get proper light... no more damping off. Best of luck!

I use 600w In my seedling/veg room. As long as you have proper distance your fine.
Same, although mine is dimmed down to 300w at the moment, I've got it over my 10 day old seedlings and they're loving it. Just make sure the light isn't too close and your ventilation is legit.

How old are they though? They look like they're about 7-10 days old? Not sure what you're worried about to be honest, they look pretty fine to me :)

It's easy to stress when your seeds aren't growing quick, but they rarely do. You aren't going to see much going on above the soil because your girls are still trying to get their roots going. Right now they need to focus on increasing the size of their taproot before you'll see anything going on up above.

If your seeds were 3+ weeks old and looking like that then I'd definitely be worried, but from what I'm seeing all is well.

I popped 15 seeds on the 27th of last month, I only have 5 sprouts out of the 15 seeds. Did you order the seeds from attitude? How did they look when you got them? Were they tiny and weak looking? Or were they big and stripped? Whenever I get seeds from a bud or anything of the sort, I always try to squish it between my thumb and index fingers. If I can't squeeze them, I know their good. The seeds I ordered looked like they wouldn't pass that test, with how they looked compared to some of mine, I'm surprised I even have 5 sprouts to tell you the truth. Just be patient my friend.

Thanks for the advice all. The seeds are good because i shelled out $30 to Nirvana to get them, and I've used them before. I think it's just a light issue; I've grown these seeds fine before under fluorescent lights. It was just foolish this time to use a little generic bulb while waiting for the big light to come. I also think I didn't plant the seeds deep enough, and so when they broke through the soil they were still very weak and hardly able to shed the 'helmet-head.' Hopefully when the big light arrives tonight it fix all these problems.

And I agree that mistakes make you a better grower. I'd just like to have a success, for once, instead of a 'learning experience'!

Dude just fyi, growing is always a learning experience, doesn't matter what strain you have, just about every one of them is a different method....no offence

I'm happy to report that the seedlings seem to have recovered. After a week under the new light I bought (600w that can be dialed down to 300), they have grown much larger and greener.

Air circulation remains sub-optimal and the containers are too deep and narrow (because I had to keep replanting the leggy seedlings), but hopefully these issues are minor and will be resolved once I can afford a grow tent. s/o to everyone who offered advice.

Its not the generic bulb its the bulb . You cant raise plants under incandescent light, it doesnt work and this is the issue.
Can you get them out in the sun until the light comes?

The new light has already arrived and they're doing much better.

However, I did have them on a windowsill at one point, and they stretched badly. I would conclude that natural light is insufficient, unless it's a very bright day.
