LoL yeah there are a lot of snarky people on Rollitup. Great guys here though! Im like you as far as water. Im near Seattle and my water is about 20 to 30 ppms out of the tap and sometimes 8.4 pH. I do wonder if it has to do with how the water is treated by the supplier maybe some chemical or aeration? Could be that the water is from an anaerobic environment which woud explain low Co2 levels. This is just conjecture of course.

Twisting of leaves from fresh from the tap kind of points to chemicals huh. As far as i know the amount of chlorine in water is so low it may not affect ppm much at all...maybe a few points.

I dont pH adjust flush water but the only flush i do is to run salts out and i push nutrient solution water through directly afterwards. If you were doing a no fertilizer flush at the end of flower and it lasted days or weeks id pH it....I honestly never do that though. I just slowly lower my nutes at the end of week 6 so that im at about 200-300 ppms on my last watering.

This is what I figured, I had been using the water with just a PH meter for the entire first grow and most of my current one. I purchased a PPM meter the other day and was truly shocked that the PPM was low; thought like you did, it would have a high PPM.

Obviously this meant the whole grow I was treating my water as if it was super super hard, I figured at least 300PPM and was adding other things in accordingly..

Any reason why the water could be so high PH but so low PPM? And could it cause any problems?

I leave it to evaporate for 24 hours, and if I dont, I get hideous curling of leaves, so what is evaporating that doesnt show up in PPM? Chlorine?

It doesnt change after the 24 hours, nor does the PH.

Sorry for all the questions..
Have you checked your meters, if using meters I always recommend having 2 for comparison?

The pH measurement is temperature dependent. Water at lower temps have higher pH values although the meter usually compensates accordingly. other than that I just can't think atm.

I have no more calibration powders left, but it was accurate and the readings have not changed (from the tap)

I do notice the PH change with regards to temperature though, it tends do come down to about 8.6/7 when its 20c (its about 12c out the tap)

But really, I am not having problems just curious as to why it might be high PH low PPM; got some good info from you guys now :)

Happy so long as the plants grow fine, dont want to worry about micromanagement; probably do more harm than good fiddling around, tampering with things.

KISS

During my first grow, I did not even measure nutrient amounts, and used to POUR from the bottle into my mixing jug, and it was 20-20-20 lovely heavy dose of N late in flowering..

Needless to say the weed tasted so fucking strange, most was not even smokable.

Now im testing PH etc, I reckon the PH of the nutrient water I used on my first grow might have been around 3-4.... just crazy amounts I would add in, thinking the more the better!

Lesson learned to not keep it THAT simple..

Some measuring is needed, lol.

Praying for smokable weed this time around, ditched soil and CFL and went hempy and HPS and grabbed some proper nutrients.. - Ill pop up some pictures later today to get some feedback if thats ok? :)

Hell ya love pics. I post so many im sure everyone is tired of em.

In Hempy ive stopped even bothering with pH testing. I know that when my ppms are 1100 my pH is between 6.0 and 6.3. You will find that the more you try to micromanage pH the worse your plants do ;-) even if pH is a lil high or a lil low im convinced thats better than constantly adjustig it.

I reckon the PPM at one stage of my first grow would have been 4-5000! with a Ph of about 3.0...

haha, no wonder the leaves went berserk.

But yeah you're right, dont try too hard. I mean in nature, rain water probably fluctuates in and out of a useable range, and all parts of the world its different and yet cannabis thrives in diverse places.

The PPM meter has been amazing IMO, takes so much guesswork out of the equation. (had to mention this.. as I was typing that sentence "guesswork.." a man on an advert on tv said the exact same thing.. "takes the guesswork out of the equation")

THAT WAS SPOOKY..

I don't use PPM/TDS meter. .. It is my firm belief that its redundant in hempy* and a throw-back to other growing techniques. but thats another story .... .... to be continued. ....

*providing the grower has a good stable water supply.

edit:
I do know many disagree, so no offense meant to those that still use them. :?

I am thinking next grow ill not need to check as often, if at all. First grow, id pop huge amounts in, say 80ml of fert in 2L of water - turning it almost black.. and give that to the plants..

Once you've got your ph/ppm range, I agree, no real need to check at all.

Cant see me using anything but hempy for a considerable amount of time, very easy.

Absolutely stunning Hydro. The buds have that nice, dense and round look that the people love to see in a baggie. Nice job.

My tap water is about 7 pH and is excellent quality...I add my nutes (GH MaxiGrow) and the pH goes really low, so I would pH up to about 6 (approx, as I use pH drops to test).

....then I test the run-off water and have noticed the soil capped will be around 6 and normal/non-capped hempy would be very high (over 7pH)

Should I adjust the pH of the water/food until the "run-off" becomes the desired 5.8pH..... or just should I pH adjust the water/food to 5.8pH before watering .......or maybe I'm just worrying too much about it and need to toss the pH test drops

nice harvest hydro! i grew a la diva plant about a year ago. really nice plant with nugs as round as golf balls. man i miss that smoke, i got 1 more diva seed left and i cant wait to do a hempy run with it. heres a few diva pics from when i grew her, she had a bit of a gnat problem but she still turned out pretty good. steviestoner-335086-albums-my-grow-cabs-picture1813229-021.jpg steviestoner-335086-albums-my-grow-cabs-picture1813231-020.jpg steviestoner-335086-albums-my-grow-cabs-picture1813232-027.jpg

Ken's are on Promo with attitude. atm

Buy any pack and get a free 10pack of Bay11. I'm tempted to get another pack of the GDP for storage whilst getting the freebie. ... but then again I want TGA Chernobyl too.

I should really wait to test out everything else I have though otherwise it gets a bit silly.

Just thought I should mention it on WoH!!

Agreed, or at least work through 1/2 of your beans before you decide to obtain more... much easier to keep things organized, unless you store them in aluminum briefcases like someone else we may know.
