This is what i plan to place my clones/veg in for a bit once i am able to take clones...this is what i was talking to u before about lamopa

It is a homemade cab, 3 feet tall, about 1.5 wide, and about 1 ft deep.

I also made this tub for clones to start in, I just need to find where to purchase those 2 inch clone sleeve inserts, i believe this will work. I use a shelf system to keep the plants close to the lights, as they cannot move

Also in the cab is a small fishtank pump to act as an airstone in the res of the cloner tub, should i use something different, i lost the tube for the air, that could be hard to find lol.... only have those 14w cfl's that put out like 8 or 900 lumens each, not much at all, which should i purchase , and theres two small computer fans that work well enough to move air around the plants

Please let me know what u guys think thanks a lot, and lamopa thanks again!

If you make solvent oil you can filter it through a <0.22um filter to get the spores out. Most people don't have those just lying about though.

Looks perfect FJG!! You won't need too much light when your clones are babies, 23 or 24 watts of CFL's should be fine. You can also put your clones within a foot or so (if not shorter) from your lights. Just hold your hand under the light at plant level and see if it feels too hot. Just a little warm is OK.

Yeah not much you can do. As MrED said, mold can be very bad for your health if you breathe it in. We're talking toxic poison and death from some molds, so be careful!

I threw it out already.as far as having those things on hand,I don't really know what they are.I think I have a ways to go before I reach that level of competence.I was just wondering about bubble hash though.I know that science is on your side as far as the cold separating the good from the useless, but I was curious on whether it would take the mold and its spores away.Only the last 7 to 8 inches of the main cola was infected.still got a lot of nice buds off the lower end.are these ok?I'm going to hang them in a different area.IT turned out that both of my LSD had mold.MY 3 kritical kush came through alright,so far.everything seemed fine 2 days ago,but I did have a spill.I think I must not of got all the water up.when I closed the box back up it must have created enough humidity to pooh pooh the denser buds of the LSD.IS this assessment sound or just my imagination?

Hey WOH I’ve just caught up again. Nice to see so much enthusiasm in the bucket world. I saw a few topics I want to throw in my 2cents worth.

Ph pens – you get what you pay for, most of the time. Buy one that is designed for agricultural use. Always store in fresh storage solution (Milwaukee is good and inexpensive). Best tip I can give is to always keep the probe wet, do not let it dry out. When it dries, the minerals in the solution will adhere to the probe.

The other was watering frequency. Since the beginning of hempy it’s always let em’ dry. And the most asked question when working with perlite buckets was “How can I tell if it’s dry”? The answer still is “Pick it up”. Stoneslacker’s example reply was dead on. The Hempy machine runs better if it goes full cycle. Hempy theory is to create a very good air to moisture ratio. But it’s not perfect all the time, because it’s a passive system. Right after you water to overflow in the bucket the air to moisture ratio will be moisture heavy, as it dries it will pass through the perfect air to moisture ratio and by the time the rez is dry the ratio will be air heavy. Also I remember reading (I can’t remember who) “I water everyday to keep the rez fresh”. This is totally wrong, If the rez isn’t emptied and you keep adding to a half full rez then it will concentrate the nutrient salts, and the water becomes stale.

I can hear the mumbling about I need to water my fresh transplant in the big bucket everyday till the roots hit the rez. Again this is not true. You can take a solo mini hempy in coco and put it in a 2gal bucket of coco and not water for days, basically not until the rez dries. My current grow was soil core into mixed coco and I didn’t water for a full 6 days. At this point the roots had hit the rez, and the rez was dry. They didn’t grow very much above ground during these 6 days, maybe a couple of inches. But after the water and switch to flower light, they are doing more than an inch a day.

More mumbling “What about straight Perlite” Okay this is the one shortcoming for straight perlite, it doesn’t wick (lift) the moisture as high as coco, but I still wouldn’t water everyday, maybe every other, you still want the plant to push building roots, and I’d tilt and drain the bucket after a few days. Now here’s my fix for the perlite bucket. Cap the top 1 ½” of the bucket with either soil, or coco. This will correct 2 shortcomings of the straight perlite bucket. One it acts as a moisture sink, (acts like a sponge) the perlite will now pull moisture from the rez all the way up to the cap (5gal is the exception). Second it will make a light barrier, and the roots will grow much closer to the top of the medium, thus giving you a larger root zone in your container. Bonus with the cap is you can use the visual and/or finger method of determining when it needs to be watered. The soil/coco will look and feel dry, just like a soil grow. This can be handy if working under a screen and can’t lift a bucket.

And please always be sure to use your Hempy buckets only for good.

Very very informative info Watt. Much appreciated and im sure many others appreciate your wisdom and time to write your thoughts and helpful opinions, and still look back on what we were talking about, you deserve great karma friend.

The idea of soil or coco at the top of the bucket sounds like a great idea, keep the fan from blowing little bits of perlite here and there also.

would any regular soil work ?

thanks mate

Yes, any good potting soil, your not looking to feed with the soil, that's being added with every watering. Just helping the perlite perform better.

I have only up-potted two of my plants to the new 5 gallon hempys,
but I ended up burying a great deal of stem...and my seedling were
started in soil.

So, the current rootballs are well down in my buckets and I do not envision
any need to water early anyway.

Great stuff! Thanks for taking the time.

HI all.I just want to shower all you hempy masters with gratitude.I just finished my first hempy grow and I am tickled pink.I had a mold issue at the end,but that's due to my lack of experience. This is my first successful indoor grow and by far the easiest. You guys are doing growers a great service.Keep up the good work.thanx(I know its gratuitous ass kissing, but I really mean it)

I'm a big fan of soil capping for the reason you stated, and also it just keeps the perlite from falling out when you tip the bucket.

I start my plants in rockwool then moved to the bucket (or pop bottle) as soon as the roots show. I know this is not conventional and does results in slow progress for the first weeks.

I water my bucket twice daily for the first while. but do not use nutes so salt build-up is not an issue. I also drain the bucket as much as I can before adding fresh water

Once the roots are established, then I start to water/nutes every second or third day (when bucket is light)

BTW...not saying what I do is right or best....it's just what I have done

cheers

That is what i did and boy did i notice the first few weeks of growth were very slow...by the fourth week (currently) they are starting to grow much quicker, i wonder why starting in rockwool takes longer...i have 50 rockwool macro starter plugs, from a year ago, i cant stand them, they have a nice slit for cuttings or seed starting, but once you soak them, the slit never stays together, and streches apart....also unlike other rockwool these plugs dried up very fast, so not ideal at all, because once you water them they expand and that slit separates again, where the root is trying to root, not good, i just got these jiffy pellets ive heard much better things about them
