World Of Hempy

Well, Well, Well, Look who’s back from the future! Just stopped in to say Hi to all my old Hempy Brothers and Sisters. I was a contributing member of this thread for the first 400 pg’s until I had to stop growing due to the “25 mile dispensary rule” and retired from work too. My retirement since ’15 has been a wonderful thing. I can only wish you all get the chance to make it there….so stash everything you can in those 401K’s. Even though a registered MMJ patient, my move to a cooler more rural climate still found me within a 25 mile distance to a dispensary (they are everywhere in this state). So I haven’t grown a thing but fucking flowers, veggie’s and fruit tree’s which all grow quite well here. One good thing I did upon retirement was learn to brew beer and man do I have the setup now. I’ve actually been competing! Hop’s, marijuana’s only relative, are a wonderful thing…I like putting them together in the same arena from time to time. Looks like we have another recreational legalization on the ballot for this November….watching anxiously, cause if we do, I’m gonna rock that Hempy!
Hey Jela....good to see you back, now if we could just get Moe back in action this thread could return to its glory

I'm interested in your beer brewing hobby, could you elaborate a bit more on your setup and results

cheers

Hi guys, wanting some advice on hempys.
I currently run a drain to waste system in 70/30 coco/perlite mix.
Im looking at building hempys for my next run. I have 5 plants in veg currently in 18L pots of above coco/perlite mix. Normally when i transition them to the flower tent ill go to 30L pots.
I plan on using hydroton balls for the res part of the bucket then the rest will be perlite.... aside from the 18L of coco/perlite they are already in. My main question is, will 50L be to big of a final pot.... haha i know most people only go to 20L ish for hempys....but im already in 18L...... and ill only have 3 plants in my 5x5 tent and 2 in my 4x4....any advice is appreciated

Well, that is about 13 gallons and it is big but that should not be a problem.

They may end up huge. I never went above the ~ 18 L size.

Just in case anyone wants a SUPER Hempy bucket, this is how I design mine...Still a simple design but has an airstone addition, plug for water samples, and a vertical tube for watering the rez only when the roots bottom out (IT WILL PREVENT BUILDUP FROM ALWAYS TOP WATERING)....this bucket produces GRADE AAA bud....I gave up water culture to come back to this...View attachment 4000290
How does bottom feeding prevent salts buildup? Is it just that it's dryer towards the top? Are there many others running bottom feed Hempy's?
467 pages is a lot to read. ;)

Is this chart ok to start off with using hempies with GH nutes? obviously with alterations if problems arise? thanks

6 ml Micro/9 ml Bloom in coco plus .75 gram of Epsom and some Cal/mag
I ran the head formula a couple rounds and after reading a thread by @homebrewer I adopted a middle ground as there is the love of nitrogen folks rarely speak of on the gobble list in coir. What I settled on was
8 mil micro
5mil grow
5mil bloom
For my base plus my ridiculous booster regiment as I'm a CES nut job most would say a replica of gh. My findings were to the letter homebrewers assertions. No leaf fade at all until I micro fed for the flush...

when i first started i used CES in the Lucas formula. i thought they were solid nutes. havent' checked on them lately. have they come up with anything new and great??
Met the ces rep...
New calmag that's calnit. Its chelated with dpta vs edta.

New spidermite general critter formula.

Once a guy gets a grip on plant amp it's a great place to be just can't follow their fucked feed chart though. Had to educate myself to another level to bring it all into focus.. was really reaching in the beginning. Good folks over there.

I have my helper growing in coco and using 3 ml grow and 5 ml bloom. Less is more, you can always add if needed.

Gr865 speaks words of wisdom...Less is more...If you pH is tuned, your plants are VERY efficient at utilizing available nutes...I dont go get much higher than 6ml per gallon during veg...I increase that when I flip the timer to support heavy stretch and avoid any deficiencies too early in flower...I leave them on Grow formula throughout 1st 10 days of stretch and transition to bloom as pistils start popping everywhere....When there is constant 'bathing' from top watering hempy or standard DTW, only very moderate levels are needed....It is key for DTW (which hempy buckets fall into), TO FEED every watering but with moderate levels....Plants like that stability....Anyone who feeds, flush, feeds or similar practices are NOT providing a stable situation...You can grow like that, but its better to feed constant, but moderately....I grow with Hempy buckets only now (with some slight modifications) and they out produce any other system I have had, and I've been thru them all over the decades....Hempy isnt ideal for large commercial systems, but for the average grass roots home grower, It cant be beat...cost, simplicity, RESULTS....I use the Dyna line of nutes only, and have for over 20 yrs now...Their Foliage Pro is a re-do of their grow formula, designed with cannabis in mind...it has higher nitrogen than their standand grow formula, AND a much higher calcium level and increased Magnesium....This is great for anyone using RO water...I use tap water and always have (about a 200ppm), and still find the foliage pro OUTSTANDING......no micros need to be added....And I use the Dyna Bloom for flowering....also a single use nute...THEY ARE ALL THAT IS NEEDED.....WAY TOOO many pretty bottles of addatives on the market promising everything from massive root systems to mega buds...Dont believe it!!!....Their livelihood depends on YOU falling for it....Multi-million dollar industry preying on ignorance....Find a QUALITY nute, stick with it, and learn how to use it....Less is better...YT
QUICK PICS...replanted yesterday and other pic is the last crop, and a typical crop, a week before harvest in a 4ftx5ft closet...3 gal Hempy style buckets with airstones and a 2 inch porous grow rock base..And a 4:1 mix of perlite:vermiculite medium....YT20181130_005544.jpg 15375588684322981970464058876864~2.jpg

Creative system! I wonder how dynagro foliage pro can get away with 2% calcium and .5% mag while everyone else is trying to push 2x to 4x those amounts... Do you know if the calcium in theirs is calcium chloride or carbonate? I'm building a vert tower to do some testing with so I think I'll give that stuff a try. At an application rate of 6mil to the gallon what does your EC come up to?

I have had nothing but horrible results using it. Regardless of the grow method I tried it in.
I just gave up on it and threw mine away.
Even the $5 nutes I use sometimes gives me less shit.

Its funny that I just looked up the ORIGINAL calcium levels in their standard dynagro, AND IT TOO now has 2% calcium....There has been a lot of debate lately about how important calcium really is and most likely why many are pushing higher levels....IDK, a chemist I am not...this September does mark 40 years of hydroponic growing, so I base it on results...My 20 sqft area is occupied by 6 plants...I have 2 strains capable of producing 45+jars (oz's) in that 20sqft with an average of about 38 jars with my other strains mixed in...So I am getting about 2oz per sqft, which equates to 6.5-7.5 oz per plant depending on which stains I run that crop (I have 5 strains I swap out)...my BubbleBomb is my highest yielder from Bomb Seeds...BubbleGum cross with one of their signature plants (THC Bomb)....Just behind that is my Peyote Critical....Prunning technique, a 1000w light (on a mover), ALL play key rolls too...everything I do is a culmination of decades of growing.....BUT, I have not tried ANY nutrients that outgrow the Dyna line of products....Single use is a great too...No base formula with micros, grow and bloom to add to it....2 bottles of products takes me from start to finish...nice interview on Dude Grow show with Dyna's CEO attached..YT

Sorry, someone asked what my ec runs with 6ml per gal...IDK...I dont use TDS meters...no need for one...I use a pH meter religiously but the TDS meter doesnt help me AT ALL....just a number I have no need of knowing...ALL my feeding is done based on what the plants are doing....I have learned LONG AGO how much to start with and what a typical increase should be...The plants will always let me know when a increase is needed....One of the keys to becoming a GREAT grower, is knowing how to read your plants needs...at that point tds meters are useless...I check pH like a maniac but dont chase that too badly...I allow a little up drift which mine always have, and reset when it gets on the high end....THEY LIKE A DRIFT and you can drive yourself nuts trying to keep it perfectly stable...
I have seen 'feeding charts' that I disagree with....And tds meters with a generic feeding chart can get any new grow in a heep of trouble..LOL.....Quality nutes, stick with them, learn how to use them in YOUR system...YT
