Worms

I was reading about worms, and just wondered can i go to my garden find some worms and stick them in my pots or do i need to clean them or something (not that i would know how to (if you can could you tell me how)) Sorry for being a bit of a noob.

was it my post ?? lol i got worms i didnt know i had them till a lil baby worm popped its head out of the dirt its in with small new 2 week old plants and they seem to be fine besides the fact i need to transplant badly

No i dont think ud have to clean them, but i dont think it would hurt to rinse them just a little bit with water.

worms are awesome for plants of any kind. Myself, I would go to wal-mart and purchase those super healthy night crawlers. So big, fat, slimey, and healthy ^_^

But going to your garden works just as well, but I don't want to dig lol

How many should i use in an average sized pot? (25cm) or is there no limit?
Also do i need to feed them?

well u dont want to overkill it. I know there is a limit, but i dont know what the maximum would be. For a twenty 5 cm pot id go with 3 - 5 worms so they would all get fed well (so none would eventually die).

the best are earth worms, or they also call them Red worms, you can get them in lots of 25 from a local bait store or even WalMart, I think. They reproduce so I wouldnt put to many in the pot at a time. To feend them, you can use corn meal, oat meal or you can get worm food for them. Just be carefull that you dont over feed em as you may get mold. They are great cause they airate the soil and worm casings ( worm poop ) is really good for the plant and soil

soo, i just start digging? im still a bit worried they are going to eat the roots but if you guys say its ok you guys no best

I dont think worms eat roots.

I went and bought some canadian night crawlers last night as the walmart(I don't have time to dig in the dirt) and popped one of those suckers in for each plant I have. At first it wasn't good because the little buggers kept wiggling out of the plant holder lol. But I checked later and they seem happy. I think my plants actually look healthier this moring.


I hope my experiment works out. Could be a new trend ^_^

i was pondering the same idea the other day while being bored in class, i wonder where i could find some of those worms for my big female plant, i didnt use any vermiculite in that pot, just organic soil so after a month and of half of watering the soil is kinda compacted.

honey, go to walmart, and get you some night crawlers, you won't regret it.

Will they die when you water and nute your plant? Even for inside grow?? This sound amazing i going to get me some too. Worms REALLY?!?! I got to try it. just pop em in and feed them cornmeal or oatmeal how often?

This has turned out to be an awsome thread, but unfortunately i live in the UK and cant find night crawlers idont even know what they are

Night crawlers as we refer to them are a worm that usually ranges in length of 3-7 inches and are thick around as a pencil if not thicker. Commonly used in fishing because it is easier to bait a hook with than red worms.

Go to a fishing equipment store (i would guess) they are the big, slimmey & juicy they stretch about 6 in long or more kinda whitish brown, hard to tell while is the head and the back cause they look the same.

Dude worms are awesome for plants, they loosen up the soil and its easier for your roots to grow stronger and healthy, the worms wont die, u dont need to feed them, They love water, and dirt thats what they live off of, When it rains there out when it doesn't there in the dirt

Also, If u put worms in your dirt, And they cant make it in the dirt when its dry than they will die, and your soil is bad.... SO put them in the plant when the dirt is dry.

but what about in doors, with ferts and nutes and stuff still the same thing and there is still no need to feed them????

I thought worms ate dirt, not like cornmeal or whatever?

A family member of mine used to raise worms for fishing cause he was such a fishing buff. You do have to feed them, a good idea is to try to mix some cornmeal in originally with the soil (not much) and then sprinkle it on the top of the soil and GENTLY turn the soil so the cornmeal is under it.
