Would it be smart to switch to bigger pots now?

I have a bunch of autos going, which are all going to stay in the 5 gallons they are in. But I have around 6 non autos and these girls have really become bushes. They are much larger than the 5 gallon pots that they are in and I have noticed 2 of the bigger plants roots have started pushing up at the top. Would it be a good idea to switch to 10 gallon pots this late in the season? Some of the plants are 3 feet tall by 4 feet wide. others are 4.5 feet tall by 2 feet wide. I feel like they would like a bigger container and I also feel like I could increase my yield significantly if I did this.

Does anyone have any advice whether I should switch there pot sizes. I am in the San fernando valley, in California and it is very hot. We are still getting 14 hours 10 minutes of sunlight, and it is going down about 1 minute a day +4 seconds each day. So I am guessing my plants wont start flowering till late august, maybe even early september... Since I have so long till flowering I feel like it is a wise decision. Does anyone here think this would not make a difference? Could they already be root bound?

forgot to add: when plants start to flower they grow like 1/3 to half as tall as they where originally (varies by strain) so I feel like they will not bud as much because they wont want to because of the small amount of room.

it sucks that you couldn't have just put them in the 10 gallons to start but you'll know for next season. If you transplant make sure you handle with care and do it right. After transplanting expect a bit of a stunt in your plants growth then they should be fine. If I were you I'd move half to the 10 gallons and keep half in the five, this way you get the best of both worlds. To be honest I wouldn't expect that much of a difference in yield if you moved them or not the choice is yours but the safe bet would be just leave them.

I think I read somewher that the plants wont grow much bigger then the pot ther in (in diremeter)

I had some 6-7 weeks Veg plants who become realy big ..

did go from 1 gallon to 3 and was thinking my 5 would be enough ..

now Im in 7 gallons ... and 3 weeks in to flowering I wish I had them in 10 gallons .. but its to late now .. in week 7 of flowering soon and they look great .. tho buds could have been bigger .. dunno if its Bc. of that of a bit high heat ..

and yea if roots are sticking up you schould consider some big pots .. be creativ .. larges buckets that they use at construction sites can be cheap at big stores .. just make sure its black ..

I prommise you ... you wont regret it .. well maybe you wont notice anything .. but then I guess you did do what was right .. as they do stretch a lot and will need more room ..

BTW
I would do it like 1 week or so before you expect flowering or when you see pree flowers

get some good fresh organic soil .. and add some Epsom salt and Bat Guano (high P) to the soil mix (do mix the soil a week before you want to use it)

that give em some time to settel and some good food for flowering .. can also use the guano as top dressing at week 4 .. a good sugar/flower booster is also a good idea ..

At the hydro store they have these fat round 10 gallon buckets for $7.54 I will probably just get these. I will just put the biggest ones in bigger pots and leave the rest to see what happens. This way I will be able to see if the bigger pots actually made a difference. I have noticed with my autoflowers that using a 3 gallon bucket vs a 5 gallon is no different in yield (at least by what I am seeing, havent harvested yet). Anyways I will probably do it in the next week or two.

thanks for the advice

also it doesnt really matter next season because I will be putting them in the ground rather than buckets. Next season is my pound per plant season, I will be on my uncles lot and he gets direct sunlight all day on hill he is on. No trees blocking any light or buildings. I am very excited.

i had a similar question not too long ago, but i was using 18 gallon storage totes.

i had vegged my plants for about 2 months before i put them out into the totes... they were doing great until about a week and a half ago(about 4 1/2 months old total).

they all started drooping real bad, so after figuring out that they were root bound i decided to just put them straight into the ground. practically the next day they came back to full glory and now are thriving!

i would recommend transplanting, especially if you are seeing roots up top...
