Wrong bucket...

I made a mistake and used the wrong bucket for growing. Light was able to penetrate the container and has turned my roots green how do I clear this problem up.

I have already painted my buckets black so more light does not get through.

You can go a couple of different routes. You can go the route of sterilization, which is to kill basically all the microbes in your soil by giving a dose of H202. The other route you can take is beneficial microbes. They will combat negative microbes and help to establish a protective zone around your roots, and actually assist in the breakdown of organic material into nutrients. Or, you could apply the h202, do a couple of watering cycles, then apply some bennies after the problem is under control. If you decide to use bennies, and don't want to breed your own, it is hard to beat Great White. Great for soil and hydroponics. I run bennies and haven't had root rot in over 5 years in hydroponics, and water temps are always over 70-72F.
